Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ok.

So the only people who have it worse than the GAA, old people, country people, publicans, taxi drivers and the nurses are the teachers.

You have to love the old people being wheeled out and used to forward any argument.

Smoking ban: driving the old people from the pubs and there only social outlet moriya.

Sky sports GAA: driving the old people to pubs to watch a match moriya!

    You can't bleedin win!

RTÉ receiving a backlash of criticism now from the GAA and other quarters over their coverage of the SKY deal. I'm not surprised following today's overtly biased Liveline and last night's Six-One News and Prime Time.

They've even just sent an email to the lads on Off the Ball on Newstalk defending their angle on coverage of the deal.

Reminded me of a child having to explain why they threw a strop when they were asked to share their sweets.

I had a little chuckle when I read one of their reasons for them insisting they covered it fairly was because they were mandated to be fair and impartial. That memo still hasn't reached Duffy Towers.

So did RTE email Off the Ball about it?

Yep. The lads on OTB were having a laugh saying the the best argument RTÉ could find against the deal was that it encouraged families to bring their kids to pubs. Miriam used this ploy three times on Prime Time last night alone.

The masters of Montrose weren't happy with the attitude of the jumped up little scamps down in Marconi House and lobbed a defensively worded email their way.

Did they really think the OTB lads were going to read it and feel suitably chastened by it and say nothing?

An article about Duffy and RTEs in general reaction to the Sky thing
Host Joe Duffy didn't comment, but then he was busy traffic-managing the callers who wanted to drive all the way to Croke Park to vent their anger. It got tedious quite quickly, but Duffy appeared content to continue waving indignant callers around the same roundabout again and again.
They don't need RTE, complete with its transparent self-interest, whipping them up as has happened so shamefully over the last two days.

some people say that the GAA brings out the best in the irish

i beg to differ....I think the GAA as an organisation breeds insular parochial narrow mindedness and i hate it

Liveline was an absolute joke yesterday, one of the most unbalanced shows I have ever heard (and that is saying something for liveline).
As a person heavily involved in the GAA at club level none of the callers reflected my view and Duffy didn't even attempt to put the other side of the story as it didn't suit the RTE agenda. Usually I take a very lighthearted view of Liveline but yesterday made my blood boil as various callers threw in their opinions which were often treated as fact and with no interrogation from the host. It was like listening to Radio North Korea where all the callers were ringing the host Kim Young Un to complain about how awful a country the USA is.

Nope, you're wrong JM, sure RTE themselves said that
As the national public service media organisation, RTÉ is statutorily obliged to be fair, impartial and balanced. RTÉ is satisfied that its coverage on the GAA’s media rights announcement was balanced and fair across all platforms and gave ample opportunity to all sides to air their views

So there couldn't have been any biased or impartial coverage on the de liveline yesterday.

The programme was dreadful but unless people were phoning in to give the other side of the story, you can't blame RTE for reflecting the views of the callers it was getting.

Of course if they were getting such calls and chose not to put them on air.....

    I like your naivety :)

There was one particular caller that opposed Joes view and Joe made a muttering comment at him and promptly cut him off. If you're a regular listener you'll know by now that this is Joes style when it comes to opposing views to himself.

And in (champagne) Socialist Joe Shows, Joe rings you.

Not always so, I know people who have called in and got on air (not on this subject.)

I assume all these shows start off with a few pre-arranged callers and then wait for the reaction. That's the researchers' job. It is only a problem if the thing is set up to just reflect one side.

I didn't listen to all of it (who could?) but I got a few chuckles out of it.

Offer the first caller a pint to cheer him up..

The GAA management have treated small clubs with contempt by putting their games behind a paywall. Kids sell tickets and local clubs pay fees to the GAA management and get nothing in return.
