Anyone else thinking that all this might not have happened if the Brits had not left Ireland in 1921? Maybe we would have a different legacy, certainly not a worse one than all this clerical-related stuff.

There was just as much crap and sweeping things under the carpet in Britain in the times in question. It went on here for a bit longer, but the rural attitudes in many parts of Britain were just as stuck in the past.
