Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was there ever a descendant of Jim Larkin's on the Liveline?

And what did he sound like?

The whole "invite a Royal" was just some remark Inda Kinny made to make himself look like an accomplished statesman.

    It's completely backfired.

When I lived in England my water bill used to be around 300 every couple of months, 4 months I think. It didn't take long to get into the habit of turning off the tap when brushing teeth!

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,195 ✭✭✭bottlebrush

Why don't these people just get it... they just need to change their habits.

I lived in Australia and you get very canny with saving water when you pay through the nose for it. I never let the tap run to wash my teeth - I use a cup

Some beers taste like they've been used for that.

Why don't these people just get it... they just need to change their habits.

To me, it's the most obvious thing to do, before they even thought of bringing in water charges.

There was some charlatan "consumer expert" from the Herald on Matt Cooper last night talking about how people will now have to think about turning off the taps when they wash their teeth and shave.

WTF, if you leave the tap running while shaving you deserve to be paying a penal amount on top of your regular water charge.

New business opportunity for Ben Dunne.....teaching people how to use the toilet economically?

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 14,125 Mod ✭✭✭✭pc7

It is a killer when you think of all the new charges the last few years, now I know country folk paid lots of these before but I never had too, but when you list all the expenses these days its a killer :-

    * bin charges (all its done is gone up)
    * property tax (will only go one way)
    * water charges (will only go one way)
    * PRSI (while I always paid it it doesn't even cover getting a clean and polish anymore)
    * TV license (this is the bill I hate paying more than any other)
    * Universal Social Charge (go figure!)
    * Levies on insurance policies

it really is a killer :(
