Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    It's a disgrace. Garda-bashing on Liveline

If this stuff about the Garda Reserve is true then its a sad reflection on the serving members and hierarchy of the Gardaí. Why not use all the resources to hand, including the Reserves.

Can't have members of the public hanging around custody suites.

They might see more than the Gardaí want them too.

Not true, I know a few that wanted to join the Reserves. Some were getting experience for then the Moritorium was lifted, others just interested in the role - I wouldn't mind doing it - it would keep my kids on their toes if they thought mum was about to come into the local Nightclub, swinging my baton :D:D:D:D

I believe a certain amount of funding comes from selling knocked off stab vests

So, what it boils down to, is this guy thought he'd be in with a chance of short-circuiting the recruitment process in his favour and it didn't work like that.

Its paid for by the social committee in each station, which each worker pays into from their wages every week. Also pays for tea/coffee/milk in the station.

Maybe the crimes just weren't happening around where this reserve fella was stationed..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,950 ✭✭✭✭Dan Jaman

I can see a flaw in his reasoning. If his presence in the office releases a proper Guard to go out, that means a proper Guard loses his chance to sit in the office with his feet up, watching the Sky Sports.
I can see how that might cause a bit of resentment.

The Garda Reserve were set up by McDowell - just like the ASBOS - as a stunt with no thought.

If the Garda Reserve want to be taken seriously 10 of them should all head out to Dublin City centre and keeps their eyes open.

It's a bit like the pre-de-regulated taxi drivers, there weren't enough drivers and ordinary people were suffering.

There aren't enough gardaí so they have no right to complain about these reserves turning up.
