Interesting development in the Cairns/Modi libel case from a while back. Taken from The Telegraph:
Cairns won a libel trial against Modi, a former Indian Premier League commissioner, at the High Court in 2012 over claims of corruption in the now defunct ICL as the judge rejected accusations that he had been involved in match fixing.

Fitch-Holland is a friend of Cairns and has acted as his adviser in the past. He appeared as a witness for Cairns at the trial. The allegations first surfaced when Cairns was sacked by the Chandigarh Lions team. Modi later stated on Twitter that Cairns was sacked for match-fixing. Cairns claimed that he lost his contract for failing to disclose an injury

Modi has continually spoken out about fixing in games (some of it more for self publicity than love of the game!), so if Cairns is going to end up back in the spotlight for the fixing allegations, it will give Modi a huge amount of kudos.

I'm not interested in the personalities, but I want to see as many fixers caught and dealt with as possible.

Fixing is rife everywhere sadly in cricket. Anyone over 8 who believes Sreesenth was anymore than a sacrificial lamb than you are a clown.

But its not just in India, games in England and Bangladesh have also been fixed, 20/20 is great but its always going to be vulnerable to greedy players and fixers.:(

The mess that is the IPL now

I for one am a great fan of the IPL and think it is a great thing for cricket....but crooks like Modi and Srinivasan along with the countless fixers back home in India have ruined a good thing

Even as an ardent supporter of CSK I think CSK should have been suspended this year

Wouldn't they have just been bought out by someone else?

The IPL is great for cricket agreed, 2 months of fun cricket which secures our favorites and their family's future but I fear that corruption is so rife it may not be possible nor will the desire be their to stamp it out.

Although some will use this as an excuse to kick the IPL, it would be very naive to suggest that other leagues are squeaky clean, 20/20 cricket is the easiest to manipulate and also the most profitable.

Saying that lets not forget that Aamer and Asif got up to their tricks in an england test cricket summer.

    Nothing is safe sadly.

    Bleak.

Not looking good for Lou Vincent, its pretty easy to guess the Pakistan player if you do a little research and no I won't name him in case I am wrong here:pac:

That is the Sussex v Kent game that is been investigated, it was treated with a lot of derision by punters at the time tbh.

Their is a thread on Betfair which followed the game at the time, the forum to be kind can be silly but it is interesting to read the reactions of punters as the market was with Kent no matter the scenario.

Lou Vincent has released an excellent statement on his ban. Hate him for what he did during his career but at least he has been honest now, unlike the others out there who've fixed.

It's a very heart felt statement and well worth a read.

    Starts with
My name is Lou Vincent and I am a cheat.

I have abused my position as a professional sportsman on a number of occasions by choosing to accept money through fixing.

A little perplexed about all the sympathy he is getting, been doing it for years and probably lead other people astray. Career was over before this anyways so easy for him to be all noble with these type of statements.

If it leads to others been prosecuted then maybe I'l give him some props, but until screw him and the rest of his ilk who continue to do this.
