See, that's exactly why you "should" complain. I worked in restaurants for years and would much prefer a customer would let me rectify the problem than leave dissatisfied.

I'm talking about rudeness more than anything. If I go to a shop and I'm being served by the owner and he or she is rude to me, I won't go back. I can't see how complaining in that situation would do anything.

Ah tbh, I must be lucky but not much goes wrong generally for me or I'm probably more tolerant of stuff than others (I don't care about a hair in food or slow service, for example) because I've had so many jobs in the service industry I know **** happens. I know some people who go out of their way to find stuff to complain about and it wreaks my head. Just sit and relax and enjoy the meal ffs!

I certainly can have a rant when with friends, which is more venting rather than anything else.
But when it comes to actual complaining and confrontation I think I'm fairly reasonable.

As for complaining as a customer, well I've experienced both sides of the barricade and I'm fairly tolerant. I complain rarely but when I do I choose the polite approach and it usually works out well. Unless the other person is rude, then I have to brace myself and let the bitch side of my personality do the job. I don't cause a scene, I'd just be very assertive and make sure that the message of me not being impressed with their behaviour is delivered. And no tip, if the service is really bad.
I would be much the same. I don't go looking for reasons to complain, e.g a retail scenario, but if I feel a complaint is justified, I will put my case politely, and assertively.
I really don't like to hear/ see people giving out to the wrong person, e.g. shop assistant in my local garage getting his head chewed off about the prices. I am sure he is working there for a wage, and has no say whatsoever in setting prices.

When it comes to bad service or whatever, I don't do anything. I can't remember the last time I complained about anything tbh. Even if there's a hair in my food, I eat around it (I personally don't think it's that big a deal anyway - **** happens and it doesn't mean the place is dirty). I just don't return to that place again.

Housemate situations are tricky because there's nothing worse than not getting on with the person you live with. I've shared with hundreds of people and even did the "7 people from all around the world squashed into one flat with no sitting room in London" thing. I tend to be fairly tolerant of stuff many people wouldn't be tolerant of having grown up in a big family with an extremely untidy brother. This issue with the dishes would piss me off though because it directly affects me everyday and i'd have to say something and would. I don't think I've ever had tension with a housemate but I've lived in flats where a few of them don't get on and it's almost as unbearable. I'd rather move out tbh.

I grew up in an environment where everything got turned up to eleven over the square root of feck all. As a consequence, I hate loud arguments and confrontation. Like you I tend to say nothing about poor service and can put up with tons of grief before doing something about it.

Weirdly though, in my house share days I was like Judge fecking Dredd. I took no prisoners ever. Anyone crossed me and they got a world of pain. I cut off phone/internet/cable for the whole house if someone wasn't paying their share, told people to leave if they were messing about with the rent and, on a a couple of occasions, physically threw unwelcome house guests out the door. A friend of mine is exactly the same. It was mad going to stay with him in London and see him ordering a house full of professional types about like he was their very strict dad and they all obeying him.

i could do better. I don't like to use my 'gunpowder' unless its worthwhile. I'm expecting a good few who read this to reply 'wha....?' but like in the other thread where my post got similar response I will stick you on ignore and those who thank such reply. Not complaining here just

I think it means "I am good at complaining but I could do better at it. I don't like blowing up about stuff unless it's worth it."
After that, I have no idea what or why

According to my OH, if complaining was an Olympic sport, I'd be a gold medalist :D
