unknown classic albums

There are loads of albums that have gone under the radar that I'm guessing people don't know about. I'm still hearing new albums from the 90's that I never heard about back then because they never got write ups in magazines or on Yo!

To start the ball rolling on this, an album that everyone should know about is Dred Scott - Breakin Combs.

This actually did get a small bit of recognition, but should have gotten way more. It had a couple of really stong 12's, was produced by Dred himself and had a real New York/Beatminerz/Finese sound to it.

I was only listening to this albm today "Scientifik - Criminal"

He was a rapper from boston, who died in 1996, he apparently killed his girlfriend then himself, but the case is till unsolved due to lack of evidence. Criminal was his first album with production from Buckwild, Edo G, Diamond D and even Rza

Another classic that gets little mention is Da B.U.M.s - Lyfe N Tyme

Smooth, gritty, funky, ridiculous wordplay...this album is just exceptional.

Da Bush Babies - Gravity
Thier first album was really good, but Gravity is where is all came together for them. They got an relatively unknown Mos Def on 2 tracks, The Ummah on some beats.....but it's pretty much early J Dilla beats, his sound shines through on them.

In relation to The Artifacts posted above by Muirshin Durkin, their 2 albums are ridiculously good. Neck breaking tracks on them.
Have to agree on Soul On Ice as well, Ras Kass hasn't come near that standard since.

When I was starting this thread, I was thinking about the No ID album mentioned by beano, this changed the sound of hip hop coming out of Chicago and made it much more accessible. Probably the biggest rapper out of Chicago at the time was Common Sense who worked with No ID. It was after this that Common started to gain momentum with this type of production from No ID.

It's not exactly hard-hitting stuff, but always gets me nodding.

That Rasco album is amazing. I remember when I first listened to it I was blown away by the intro to The Unassisted.
