TXFM is never gonna do well listeners or business. Indie/specialist market is tiny, really hard sell.

I honestly don't see how the re-brand and relaunch of a station doing the same as the station previous, is going work.

Best of luck to em' tho.

When it comes to the playlists, as the often-played KOL song Don't Matter goes, "It's alllllllwaaaaayyys the same". I fully realised that in the last few days as I listened to my 3 year old son sing along to Milky Chance, George Ezra and Chvrches with spooky precision. Still better than the alternatives on air though, IMO!

Wait, how do I enter the competition? Do I just text in my details, or do I have to wait for a particular song?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,812 ✭✭✭Vojera

For the Win the Winter competition? You wait for a certain song. They announce which one at the start of the shows. I wasn't listening to hear what Claire's was.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭Oasis_Dublin

Ah I see. I had sort of zoned out, and just heard her say "send in your details to us at 51052." It's up to you Joe

They're doing it for each show until Friday afternoon, so you've a few chances yet! But you only go into a draw then.

That's some long outage right there...

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭Oasis_Dublin

Yeah, this is exceptionally bad stuff. Although it's still better than hearing Hozier for the tenth time today, amiright?!?!

I really can't see TXFM going the distance now to be honest. Very very unprofessional set up

Txfm play Arcade Fire regularly and that is enough for me to rate it as the best music station in the land. Pity I can't listen regularly here in Mayo..

  • Registered Users Posts: 305 ✭✭Twizzler

Someone in the station put up a post on the Facebook page yesterday around 7 pm-ish about tuning in to Win the Winter. Comp winner had already been announced. Someone put up a comment saying as much. Post was later removed. Erm, WTF? How could someone working in there NOT know the winner had been announced when this had been such a big thing all week? And another quibble...I emailed them about the breaks in transmissions asking if they were working on resolving this, and I received no reply at all. That was several days ago.

On a more positive note, I was delighted Cathal won the PPI award in his category. He's good at what he does and seems like a sound guy.

That facebook thing could have been a mistake. You can write posts for pages in advance and set them to be put up at a certain time. So someone could have just set it to go up at the wrong time by mistake when they were doing up the post a few days ago.

I hope that's all it was. It really doesn't give a good impression when things like that happen. I am really rooting for them - I want this station to work out because I would choose it to listen to over any other by a country mile - so I hope they sort out all the niggling issues.

Ah that's a bit harsh. For all the improvements they could make, I still choose to listen to them for nearly ten hours a day. I've tried a few stations but TXFM is where my dial has lingered.

Unless, of course, you meant Arcade Fire, in which case I'm on the fence. :P

The constant playing of that Of Monsters And Men Song and 'Tongue Tied' by Grouplove (Coca Cola ad song) is beginning to get on my wick.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

flicked it on for a few mins the other day and Tongue Tied was playing, had just presumed that it was a once-off seeing as it's a few years old.
not surprising if they're playing the sh1te out of it because of an ad, the station is completely reactionary over the last few years.
something is popular elsewhere? "play it loads!"
some artist/band that has been popular all over the indie/alternative/electronic/leftfield/whatever scenes for ages makes a vaguely cross-over hit "check out this brand new artist!"
even the fawning over the new Aphex Twin single was embarrassing, don't remember too many other Aphex Twin tracks being played in the previous decade, and there certainly isn't any similar (and currently, better) artists being played these days.

I like TXFM a lot but it's getting irritating listen to their lineup refer to months-old singles as "new".

Haha, it's just refreshing to hear an Arcade Fire song on the radio that isn't Wake Up, not that I don't love the anthem of the last decade. But they have so many great songs that rarely get airplay on the mainstream stations.

Listening to the online player over the weekend and been loving it. Just switched on now to a bit of lcd soundsystem and flaming lips. Heaven.

Did you catch Joe's interview with The Edge? I thought it was really good...very natural and relaxed, with a nice flow to it.

IMO the late night shows are streets ahead of the daytime routine. But I've not really been listening lately cos I thought it better to tune out than do the whole, listen and then come here and b*tch, bit.

Its the same with most stations...its like theyre afraid they might play something someone doesnt like..so they fill the days with repetitive crap, silly competitions and jibber jabber...

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,376 ✭✭✭The_Captain

The daytime shows are dire. But the reality of it is that they need MOR tracks to attract casual listeners. As much as I'd love to hear them playing Trent Reznor b-sides in the afternoon, they're going to be playing Hozier and Kings of Leon on repeat.

do they? Hozier and Kings of Leon are on TodayFM/2FM/Spin/FM104/98FM
why would casual listeners switch to TXFM when they can get those, and the rest of the stuff that "casual listeners" like, on the stations they're already listening to?

i'd imagine that the listeners that are left listen in spite of Adele, Kodaline and Bastille getting played every hour when they have a new single out.
the odd Trent Reznor b-side, and plenty of other stuff in the same vein, may have stopped so many people from giving up on the station over the last few years, because given the abysmal listenership numbers these days, the current MOR strategy certainly hasn't improved things.
