Paul McLoon getting a show on Saturdays

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

Claire was on that 6pm-7pm slot wasn't she?
played good stuff on there. last week she had The Beta Band, Kraftwerk, J Dilla and D'Angelo amongst others.

    Paul's show:
The new show is in addition to Paul’s popular alternative music show which airs weekdays from 9pm on Today FM Another Side, with Paul McLoone will air Saturday evenings from 6-7pm.

Each week, Paul will take an in-depth look at a particular artist, showcasing the range of their work.

Speaking about the new show, Paul McLoone said: "Another Side" with my good self is a weekly journey through the work of a major artist/band, with an emphasis on some of their lesser known or heard tunes. Essentially an hour-long alternative snapshot of their work, hopefully showcasing the artist in a new, perhaps unfamiliar light.

Week one of Another Side with Paul McLoone will focus on singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer David Bowie, so tune in this Saturday, 17th January, at 6pm to hear the dulcet tones of our Derry native guide you through the work of the Thin White Duke

The lads seriously need to sort out some podcasts. All their decent shows are on when nobody would be listening to the radio

You'll never get music on Podcasts though due to licensing restrictions.

Slightly off topic but I've just heard Hector over on Today FM. He's covering Ray Darcy's old slot in the short term before Anton Savage starts

    http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/radio/hector-filling-ray-darcys-old-slot-at-today-fm-warming-up-for-anton-savage-30915594.html

TXFM appeared a bit light on holiday cover over the Christmas- perhaps he'll get a few gigs on there too?
Sure who wouldn't want to hear his dulcet Navan tones introducing the likes of SNOW or Smash Mouth (?!) in the mornings-

    :D
    Rahu Rahu etc !!

It was bad enough when they did their clear out on the 2 Ritchies etc...
If Hector is ever on TXFM, that's the day Phantom / TXFM is dead forever!!

Strange that people are complaining of heavy playlisting. I don't listen to the station a lot, but when I do it's always "here's a song nobody has ever heard...or ever will again... because it's crap".

They play a crap song every hour for a month then it vanishes into the ether never to be heard again

Haven't noticed that trend. But there was a song by Tim Wheeler - from around early November - and initially it seemed to be played every hour. I was wondering how long it would take for me to really hate this song(I actually liked the song and the sentiment behind it). Anyway, I went away for a week around the end of november and haven't heard the song since. Thought it was weird because I'm used to being force fed Chvrches, Jamie T, etc., etc for months on end.

Mr Tembo was the worst for me. Played CONSTANTLY and now it's not even on the radar

Dead Air by Chvrches is rapidly going that way now too

    Well duh.

My point is that everyone's experience is different.

One thing that is different for me (given that my listening pattern didn't change much before/after the rebrand) is I only hear once-off, crap songs plucked from obscurity which are destined to stay there. I actually expected to hear more mainstream stuff, heavily playlisted and I haven't.

What I have heard,I don't want to hear again.

Can I have a rant about how awful an interviewer Nadine O'Regan is? Songs in the Key of Life is a fantastic show but she puts me off listening to it. When John Cadell does the show its so much easier to listen to

She sounded so nervous at some points in the Mike Scott interview yesterday...he was a good interviewee though. She definitely seemed much more comfortable in last week's interview with Gemma Hayes.

While I don't mind her generally, her pronunciation of 'O' in her name sounds very forced! It's something that I remark on to myself almost involuntarily every single time she says her name.

I really hope they stop playing that Gemma Hayes song, you know the one that was used for a Christmas ad.

Christmas is over, and so is that song.

    Joe is embarrassingly clueless sometimes.

Maybe it's not the station for me anymore.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

it certainly isn't for me between 7am-7pm anyway.

flicked on for a minute this evening, Joe pleading to text on FIVE ONE OH FIVE TWO, played a bit of Shaggy's It Wasn't Me for some text-in bollocks, then started playing Green Day's Boulevard of Broken Dreams. that was enough for me to switch off for another few days.
the odd time i'll flick on and there'll be something decent, but it will be quickly followed by some bog standard indie-pop guff.
is Cathal still doing his fantasy festival nonsense every morning?

the night-time shows are still pretty good overall though, mainly because they're not full of the playlisted rubbish. they're the only times i'll listen generally.

Be interesting to see how the figures work out for them.

It definitely seems to be gaining ground with the casual indie fans (read: people who like Kings of Leon and The Temper Trap) I know.

I just find the station dull as hell now.

My god, pure desperation there, Partridge is asking people to text in and GUESS what song he's gonna play in about 10 minutes.

What are my other options for decent music at this time of day?

    There arent any...soz..........:)

Hearing that bloody New Pornographers song for the millionth time on TXFM caused me to tune in to Nova there at 6 o'clock in desperation. Haven't ever listened to it at this time. Dear God...they've spent the past hour taking calls from people stuck in the snow, basically saying "This road is dreadful - I haven't moved in hours" over and over again. It's like FM 104 with less controversial topics. And when it hasn't been people talking about traffic, it's been ads. I've heard about two songs.
So I think your only option for decent music at this time of day is Spotify....

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,467 ✭✭✭Oasis_Dublin

You know the radio figures that come out every quarter? Are they all made up?

I mean, I've looked at them, and see that they have a sample of 1,000 listeners (or something like that). But I mean surely a decent proportion of the population don't actually listen to the radio, and therefore the figures are wishy washy. I merely ask because you mention Nova, who themselves regularly mention their apparent increased listenership.

Yep, I did it. Did you see that option where you can make yourself available to be on a panel for further feedback? I signed up for that...wonder will anything come of it.

Joe Donnelly is on the way to your house right now. Get out while you can.

Imagine this thread on a TXFM focus group.

"The station is crap. Bring back Richie and Richie and tell Claire to stop dancing"
