Those Longitude triple-plays are stupid. The amount of times they have played Lucius - 'Something About You' is stupid.

The likes of Cathal deserve credit for freshing the music up a bit, but then they're forced to repeat the same few songs over and over because they're on a festival bill.

Yeah, I'm getting weary of them too....and Longitude is still three and a bit weeks away!

Anyone listen into news talk today? Joe is still on the missing list.
In saying that, Paul is doing a solid job in Joe's absence.

Let's look at some of the part-time presenters on TXFM. As you are probably aware, Gavin Glass, who is also a singer/songwriter, jumped ship to Radio Nova some time ago. So what stations would suit some of the others, post-TX FM?

Derek Byrne: he has a pretty varied and electic taste in music. He could be suitable for certain slots on Radio Nova or Today FM. He might also be a fit for RTE's digital alternative station 2XM, if he is not looking to get paid.

Nadine O'Regan: Believe it not, she could do "My Life in Music" - the slot that Tom Dunne does on Newstalk. It's very similar to Songs in the Key of Life on TX FM.

Dee Reddy: Like Derek, if she has other main sources of income, how about 2XM or RTE Chill?

Esther Moore O'Donoghue: She will still have her AA Roadwatch gig with Today FM. I suspect that she might be suited to Spin103 - maybe a slightly alternative program.

Tara Harrison: I reckon she might fit Radio Nova.

Charlotte Flood: Charlotte already is involved with Today FM behind the scenes, so maybe she could get a vaguely alternative-leaning or "cool" music show on Today FM. Otherwise, Radio Nova might suit.

Since I posted above, it has been announced that Nadine O'Regan's program will be moved to Today FM in July.

I forgot about Nialler9. He is a blogger, who I believe has contributed to programs on RTE Radio 1. I think I also heard that he has done some deejay sets - apologies if I got that one wrong! I wouLd see him continuing doing all those tasks - maybe more of them in order to fill the gap left by TXFM.

Paul said today he's standing in up until Thursday so presume Joe is on loan until then. Paul is fine as a presenter and the tunes were pretty much what you'd expect.

I think he's grand myself but the constant slavering over Foo Fighters, Chili Peppers, Biffy Clyro. He's a big fan of middling stadium rock.

At least it's not QOTSA. Anything but QOTSA.

    Cathal is back.

JC is not bad. Upfront and blunt AF which always gives me a laugh.

It going to be one of those situations that people wont miss it till its gone, then they'll be moaning about there being no alternative radio anymore....as bad as Nova is i'd like to see Cathal on there rather than some mainstream station at 1am in the morning ....

Yes, JC's bluntness is hilarious on occasion. He was always like that in the Phantom days too....nobody could accuse him of changing!

I would definitely break my 'No Nova' rule if Cathal got a gig there.

As mentioned, Joe seems to be doing a good bit of filling in at the moment - he filled in for Tom Dunne a few days ago - so hopefully that's a good sign of things to come for him.

For God's sake, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds have 100s of songs, many of them great, but all we ever hear is 'Into My Arms'. They are actually making me sick of it...

Either I'm still drunk from the footie celebrations last night or the newsreader said 'US President Joe Biden' this morning....he's got a promotion since he came to Ireland, it seems :)

Nialler9 just tweeted about the changes to the schedule. All evening and specialist shows will end next week. Boo-urns.

It's pretty crap alright, but tbh I was expecting the whole thing to go sooner than Oct...so I am going to try to take the positives from it. Sounds like Cathal, Claire & Joe are definitely around until Oct now.
Unless they get a better offer, presumably!
    Sad all the same.

It's hard to believe that the station wouldn't be viable or at least break even with just three presenters to be paid. I realise there are additional costs but even still.

That's not totally true - there will be nine presenters, counting Paul Donegan, Esther Moore O'Donoghue, Dee Reddy, Paul Lynskey, Johnny Cullen and PD John Caddell.

Nadine O'Regan will be moving to Today FM with Songs in the Key of Life and Kelly-Anne Byrne will get an extra slot on Today FM, although not quite as much as she had on TXFM.

So who else is gone from the new schedule: Charlotte Flood, Tara Harrison, Brian Keaveney, Nailler9, Derek Byrne, Orlagh Donnelly and that stand-in presenter (Sophie Gray?). I think Charlotte might be okay, being a Production Assistant on Today FM. Given that all the rest are part-time, presumably, they have other jobs to go to already.

While TXFM will stay on air for the next 4 months, we bid farewell to some of our shows from July 4th.

My positivity is waning a bit.....I'll miss Derek Byrne's show on Friday night. Paul's not on until 10 on Sat, which is late enough. Another Side of...was a good show. I loved Metal March on Sat nights. The Listening Post every Wednesday was the bomb. Frig it anyway. I'm still glad we have the long goodbye with Cathal et al. though.

Another Side of... and Metal March were presented by Paul McLoone and Dave Harrington, respectively, both weekday Today FM presenters. So they certainly will not be affected to any great extent.
