Nialler9 is currently going through all the shows that have been dropped...he sounds very raw.

He has been around for so long. Tx wasn't the only string to his bow. Best of luck to him with everything tjiugh

Yeah, he did say directly after I posted that they all have lots of other things going on too, but you can tell it's a bitter pill at the same time.

It would be great if the daytime guys could just drop the playlisted stuff and go wild between now and Oct! (I know it won't happen, but I can dream...maybe after festival season)

On another note, I wonder what John Caddell is going to do now? There'll only be half a station left to manage, and his Revolver show....he must have his finger in another pie at this stage already, surely.

Kelly-Anne basically said she left of her own accord because of her DJ slots and the Today FM shows. I'll miss her evening shows, but at least we can still hear her elsewhere.

Very disappointed in the specialist shows being axed so early. Currently listening to Nialler9's penultimate show, knowing the 'overnight music' will never match what the specialist DJs play.

It feels like the station is going to limp out now....at least Phantom went out with a bang to a certain extent, although the timeframe from the news to the end was shorter.
If Cathal, Claire or Joe left now, the station would go out with a whimper in Oct. I suppose we can't have it every way either though.

Another Side of... and Metal March were presented by Paul McLoone and Dave Harrington, respectively, both weekday Today FM presenters. So they certainly will not be affected to any great extent.

Is Dave Harrington on Today FM (or even TX FM) ? I thought a Dave Harrington was on Dublin's Q102?

It's Dave Moore on Sat night's Metal March

Sorry about that. I should have said Dave Moore!

As I said earlier, they are not the only presenters left and that includes John Caddell.

But would the replacement presenters have the same impact? I don't think so. Cathal and Joe have built up the relationships with us lot over the 2 years (as I said, I don't get to hear Claire's show all that much to comment). It would be a sad end without the regulars. A lot of people seem to be upset on Twitter and Facebook about KellyAnne not being there until the end.

Only What Ifs anyway - hopefully it won't happen. And hopefully they'll play whatever the hell they want to for the last few months insofar as they can.

Will that be that then..no alternative music on the radio or will Nova just get more adventurous..??..i'd imaging most of TX listeners (self included) wont want to listen to the other sh1te stations..and Nova just doesnt cut it for me..

Was Kelly-Anne's move away from TXFM completely voluntary or had they intended to replace her show with overnight music anyway, and just move her straight to Today FM? After all, that's what they are doing with Nadine O'Regan's show.

I am sorry to see Derek Byrne being dropped. It briefly happened to him before as a presenter when Phantom went through one of its many changes back in September 2012. Will he find a new radio outlet? 2XM or Radio Nova perhaps?

Nova's licence is for "classic rock", they fulfil that remit nicely but they're never going to be an indie station.

If you have DAB or listen via the internet, 2XM is always worth a listen.

Joe not sounding his usual happy self today.

He does sound a bit off-form....I'd say the mood must be pretty grim in there after yesterday's announcement. Has to be hard on everyone.

Cathal said this morning that he'd definitely be around until October because "I love this job". Good to hear anyway.

Wouldnt have classed TXFM as an indie station...alt-rock with some classic stuff thrown in...Nova can catch you out sometimes, certainally GG will throw in some indie stuff and PJ is not afraid to entertain..;)

Aw that's a shame, he's my rock in **** traffic trying to get home to 2 kids.

I got brexit'd on the way home this evening so was on the newstalk/todayfm buzz this evening

BBC 6 Music all the way.

Derek's playing an absolute blinder tonight....the tunes are amazing.

If some station doesn't pick him up, they're all nuts. He's made for radio.

Joe just mentioned that the phone lines are gone.
I'd be surprised if it's still around in August.

They seem to get a lot of revenue out of the festival season so should be around until then hopefully.

To be honest, it's gonna leave a serious gap to fill. Will serious miss Joe and Cathal.

Lein, I heard him say that and I thought he was possibly joking...but maybe not! I really wasn't sure at the time! While I'm glad of the long goodbye for our sakes, it's an ignominious end in another - I'd like to see such a good station getting a bit more respect on its way out, but hey, that's business.
Listening in today, you can tell Joe still has a lot of listeners....he was looking for playlist suggestions and got loads. I'd say there will be a core group of us that will stick around until the end, but anyone who was 50/50 about the station will probably head off now after the evening shows end this week.
They might hopefully hang on to the festival crowd though. EP will bring them up to Sept.

Cathal is that perfect mix of upbeat enough, but not manic in the morning. I was dying of a hangover the morning after Irl V Italy, and I couldn't tolerate anything or anyone - yet I was able to listen to Cathal.

As for Joe, I just like his show full stop.

On another note, I've had the playlisted TX on since 12, and there have actually been a few good tracks....Empire Saints, Note the Meaning being a particularly notable one. (Good - cos you may get used to it, says you! :()

Cathal played John Grant GMF this morning. I nearly fell out of bed. They should abandon the playlist and play whatever the hell they like now. Whats the worst that can happen? That they could be sacked?

I really can't take to John Grant's music at all.
