Joe Donnelly is a producer with Today FM but he sometimes fills in for D & D. Richie McCormack, as well as being a sports presenter, has stood in for Tom Dunne on weeknights - mainly music-driven show on a talk station!

Cathal Funge does quite a bit too on today fm. Was on last Saturday or Sunday I think

8 radio is doing my head in.. The repeated Spotify playlist is painful.

    This is welcome.

I gave out about Joe Donnelly and Claire Beck so much when they were on.

    I miss them.

I would imagine describing it as a "streaming service" is to evade licencing requirements that might come about by describing it as something like "online radio".

There's hardly a gap for another music streaming service. Certainly not one that's targetting a small market like Ireland.

interesting, would love more info on if they will have presenters or not. That made TX imo (and the music).

It won't be a streaming service in the sense of Spotify and Deezer, it's just a question of whether it will be music-only or have presenters.

Radio Nova have a couple of these streams going, and AFAIK it's just music.

Yeah, I meant to say that I don't see it being a Spotify/Deezer deal but will be more like traditional radio broadcast online. At least we can only hope that's what it is. I don't see the point of going to e.g. todayxm.com just to listen to a playlist. Particularly given the problems that corporation has with its online players to date.

I am nearly 100% confident that it is continuous music only. No presenters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 593 ✭✭✭dmm82

Those streams are live now on the today fm website. Non stop music, no presenters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

just stuck it on, Portishead - Roads playing, good start :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

I spoke too soon, now playing Run DMC vs. Jason Nevins - It's Like That

that was after a trio of Eurythmics, The Minutes and Paul Weller. I had to check I wasn't listening to Nova.

none of the songs I've heard so far have been released in the last 10 years.....

now Interpol, old Chems, The Hives, Blind Melon, Blur's Girls and Boys....it's kind of like a station playlisted by someone who gave up on music in 2006.

In fairness, the last four songs now have been Kate Bush, Avener, QOTSA and 'Epic' by Faith No More, so that's a reasonable TXFM impression and two songs from the last five years.

More importantly, I don't think they've said that it's going to be exactly the same as TXFM.

  • Registered Users Posts: 945 ✭✭✭Colonel Claptrap

As Joe would say, it's a broad church.

I was listening intermittently throughout the day, and heard QOTSA twice before lunch.

I was hoping for something a little more adventurous than TXFM, as it is, it's duller.
    Oasis - Wonderwall playing now.

They're playing All My Friends now, the proper version too not the radio edit. That's brightened up my morning :D

Anybody know if this will appear on Internet Radio?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,412 ✭✭✭StaticNoise

It is appearing, and I'd post the links if I was not on my mobile. I found them when I was wondering what their listener count was.

    I'll post the URLs later

Derek Byrne on 8Radio at the moment for the next while.

Derek Byrne on 8Radio at the moment for the next while.

There are at least two ex-TXFM presenters associated with 8Radio: Derek Byrne and Paul Donegan, and they may not be the only ones. What is interesting about Paul Donegan is that he does not go back to when the station was called Phantom and would not have previously crossed direct paths with 8Radio and Phantom founder Simon Maher.

No problem. I'm glad that it is of benefit.

Paul Lynskey (ex TXFM) was on on Saturday.

Like Paul Donegan, Paul Lynskey is another presenter on 8Radio.com that came new to TXFM and had not been involved with Phantom.

Probably a stupid question but how do you go about doing this? I have Stream 93i

if you go to page 33 in the manual, it tells you how to do it. it's farily straight forward, you just register on another website, and copy the link above as one of your "added stations". then on the Roberts, it should find it in the "My added stations" section.

Have to say, I'm loving TodayXM. A bit of DJ banter would be nice but for background music during work, it's hitting the spot perfectly.

And as I type this, "She Bangs the Drums" comes on. Result.

How awesome. Got Sublime played on 8 the other Saturday, a great band you hardly ever if ever hear on Irish radio. And the Stone Roses are legends.

Gave it a go this afternoon. Very good and I will be back.

100% agree, a few presenters and it would be excellent. Interesting branding also. Very much on the style of TX
