I reckon they wont put us through the physical / medical / drug test / vetting / online learning, if they cant offer a place at the end.....

Im being positive about this....approx 40 candidates have been given a start date. That leaves well over 300 places for the taking. We all began the process in september and only the top candidates are being placed now almost 7months later?....that gives anybody left after the AC a pretty good chance of being selected in my opinion. Even if they do start a new campaign look how long it would take for them to have a pool of new candidates to choose from! I think we should remain positive

Seems people have medical dates given to them today. So they might get in contact with us soon........

    Hopefully

Hi everyone, i just realized this thread was starte,d so late to the party....i had spoke directly to a contact in recruitment shortly after the AC result and they said that with my score..low B, that they wouldnt be setting a PCA date "until at least July".....hopefully this may shed some light for people

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭oztop1234

Ahh!! Thanks for your help and insight!

I don't suppose vetting forms were mentioned?

I got a 65 so wondering if that's the same for me??

To be fair that's probably a bang on time frame for them.

Did they say high probability of you getting a place based on your score?

  • Registered Users Posts: 142 ✭✭CDizzle

Low B's in July? Then possibly it would be mid b's in June and high B's in May?

If it is July for low B's i'll be in great shape for the PCA, so that's a bonus i guess!

Got my date for pca (date and day don't match up) and it also is scheduled for the week prior to the familiarisation event :(

    I don't think you're alone in that!!

Good luck getting it sorted!! Let us know how you get on

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Clare1304

    It's also very short notice!

Even if they reverse the dates is it short notice?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Clare1304

Still less than 2 weeks but manageable!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭oztop1234

    Wow!!! That is short notice

Its a typo! Got a phone call from Occupational Health this morning, the month should say May and not April. Apparently new letters were being sent out today to correct them.. So don't worry!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 106 ✭✭Clare1304

Great thanks Aaron :) wonder why we all didn't get calls?

What do we reckon then? End of every month there are PCAs?

  • Registered Users Posts: 508 ✭✭✭.S.

Canuck cooper, would you being outside NI, did they mean July since presumably you'd need more notice?? Thanks for letting us know!

I know a friend who scored 69 and hasn't received any vetting forms or PCA invite, so it's difficult to say how the next batch are being processed. Whatever it may be, the next batch seems to be small - maybe consisting mostly of those in the delay group who had scored 70+ but were only delayed due to being given time to obtain an acceptable ICT qualification.

    Late February: First batch of around 108 (18 candidates per session with 3 sessions over 2 days);

Late March: Second batch of around 162 (18 candidates per session with 3 sessions over 3 days); and

Late April / Early May: This batch seems small from the handful who have found their way here and posted - maybe another batch of 108?

Looks like processing of the remaining bunch in the 60s will be done in manageable batches each month?

Sounds like a fairly reasonable approach to me!

Wonder what pass rates are like.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 444 ✭✭Sthm

Coincidentally, those numbers (108, 162 and 108) add up to 378.

I guess the first batch are good to somewhat judge pass rates from? All guess work, but I think it'd be reasonable to guess (and from using posts on here as a rough guide) 95% attend PCA, 75% of attendees pass PCA, 95% attend medicals, 82% of attendees pass medical (roughly from the previous stats quoted a few pages back from figures in last campaigns) and then maybe 95% of the remainder get through online learning / vetting and SMT?

Goes without saying that's complete guess work!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭oztop1234

Guess work is all we have to go on at the minute.

I'll apply when it comes up again and keep my hopes up that I've done enough this time.

One day I'll think oh I've done enough then another I think nope it'll take another go to get in.

Hard to know. Just need to be ready.

Can you see a situation where B's got PCA dates and passed then medicals and online learning done and still didn't get a place?

Yes guys very few officers (if any) are involved in HR and therefore any answers they give is just speculation.
This is about as true as it gets.

When you're in your station and you're out and about on calls, the last thing that is on your mind is Garnerville, and when the next intake will be. I don't even think my Inspector knows.

What I know, I know from people staying loyal to the forum and keeping me up to speed so that I can, in turn, keep you up to speed (where appropriate). If I haven't heard it or I can't verify it as being true or false, then it's usually someone trolling for a rise out of those whose patience is balancing on a knife's edge.

This intake is full. Next intake is murmured to be around September time, but as with everything in this job, it's subject to change with no notice!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 380 ✭✭vickmackey

again, much appreciated SHIELD -- just 1 wee question you could maybe help with please?....if the intake is ??september??, will those of us waiting for PCAs, and the rest of the process, be likely to get dates for these soon, so HR has list of names ready to go...??

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,262 ✭✭✭DesertCreat_15

I don't think anyone said that frontline officers are in the know with regards to HR matters, I know I certainly didn't.

What I did say was, that if anyone knew a serving officer well enough that could call or email HR (internally)to find out the situation for their mate in the B group. :)

Just out of curiosity are any B's who have yet to hear anything going to apply for a new campaign if and when one starts?

  • Registered Users Posts: 142 ✭✭CDizzle

Absolutely. I passed the IST easily and know what to improve on regarding the AC. If it comes to me having to apply again i'll be at the top of the list.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭oztop1234

I passed IST but would like to increase my score but a brave few. Any tips?

  • Registered Users Posts: 142 ✭✭CDizzle

I scored a high 60 in the IST, basically all i can suggest is go over the practice papers a few times. and don't just check if you got the right or wrong answer, if you got the wrong answer figure out why you got the wrong answer. For the mulitple choice questions if the right answer isn't instantly obvious to you then start ruling out answers that are obviously wrong to narrow the choices down.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭oztop1234

Cheers. I scored high 50's so obviously would like high 60's now.

And I know where to go now with AC. Hoping for A* this time around. Aim high eh....

I'm as likely a winner of 'most impatient person' as any but I won't be giving up on this campaign any time soon. I'll definitely be applying again regardless of where I am this time around but it isn't time to think about that right now.

Don't really understand where the negativity is stemming from. Having passed the AC we are all now more likely than ever (possibly more likely than not) to be successful.

It's just more of the frustrating waiting game but (if I may use an entirely inappropriate phrase) our day will come.

    :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭oztop1234

I agree. Not giving up on this campaign. I'm making sure I'm as fit as I can be, The only thing I can influence right now. I hope it will come in this campaign. You're right it's the frustration.

I was just wondering how everyone felt about it whether they were holding out for this time round or submitting a new application.

I think for sure everyone who still wants it should apply again. There's no telling what could happen to scupper your chances with this campaign or what could come up meaning you'd be unable to accept an offer if it came.

On the plus side I'm sure in previous campaigns people in our position were given a bye to the AC so hopefully that's still a thing.

    True!!

We could be saying all this and still end up in GV together by the end of the year!

    Like my positivity?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 380 ✭✭vickmackey

Would they actually run a new campaign before they have fully finished the current one??? Would seem very confusing especially when funding is a key factor and they don't know yet how many will get through from current patient waiters!
Maybe SHIELD can advise on this??

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,262 ✭✭✭DesertCreat_15

You might be the most impatient and I'm starting to become the most pessimistic ! :o

I will be submitting a new application for sure (Should we need to) and if it is a case that we are given a skip ahead onto the AC that would be great! !

At least this time I won't be borderline nervous breakdown going into the Briefing Analysis and actually do better than an E ! haha

    Yes that's the way!

I know for sure Ill be seeing some of you in GV...with my face pressed up against the window in all likelihood. :)

They have done it before.....started a new campaign. If this list runs until march 2015 then a new campaign would need to start. Especially if they want another 300 in 2015/16. I know it's frustrating, I wish they would exhaust this list before starting a new one. And who knows they may do that to save money.... Here's hoping.

No buys to the AC unfortunately. Not in previous campaigns anyway.

But who knows how they will work it. It's a new world we live in where money is tight. Might do it differently

haha, that the first task you mean? You're going to have to tell us how you managed to do that. Or was it just information overload?

Either way, blame Constable Bridges. That lad/lady was useless :)

Sorry, I must've picked somebody up wrong as I was sure I read as much somewhere.

Really don't fancy doing IST again so maybe was wishful thinking on my part ha

Yep the first part ! I was dry heaving from the anxiousness, just didn't get into the groove until after that part was over.

I honestly didn't think i did as bad as I did in fairness, but i obviously was in far worse a state than i thought ! :pac:

Also, kind of silly for them to put us through the IST again is it not ?

Aw that sucks. Bloody nerves have a lot to answer to. That must've been your only downfall at least. Did well to recover from it!

Sure we're young yet Dekkers, if need be we can have plenty of whacks at it before we're scraping 57

I think some of the armed forces equivalent IST's are valid for 3 years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 450 ✭✭gigity gigity

Im pretty sure I heard that way back at the start of the Patten reforms they did skip to AC if they previously passed IST. Couldnt see it now though, its way to useful for culling the numbers! and we would be so lucky :p

On a different note, started a bit of running to get in shape for PCA, gonna need to work a bit harder!!!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 411 ✭✭Cromlech

    Hi all,

Can anyone who received a delay email and then achieved a B grade at AC help me out with some info?

I heard back from AC on 25/03/14 but I'm still awaiting vetting forms and info on the PCA, is everyone else in the same boat? Just worrying as I haven't received anything regarding the PSNI administered sections.

    Thanks in advance,

    Cromlech.

No problem, I read the first few pages but didn't fancy sifting through the rest when I seen how many pages there were.

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
