Can't get to Torproject.org, does anyone else have this problem

Not sure if this is the correct forum, if not perhaps a mod could move please. But being security related, as regarding privacy, guess it relates to "Information Security". So, heard of Tor only recently, went to download it at https://www.torproject.org/‎ only to get:

    Invalid Server Certificate

You attempted to reach www.torproject.org, but the server presented an invalid certificate. You cannot proceed because the website operator has requested heightened security for this domain.

Does anyone else have this problem? It seems that it can be downloaded from other sources in any case, CNET for example. Thanks.

Is it not the onion browser you should be downloading for tor.

    https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html.en

Make Sure date and time are set correctly.

That cert looks fine. What cert are you seeing?

I also get invalid server cert when I click that link.

Not sure what you mean, I know next to nothing about IT, just know that I get Invalid Server Certificate when I try and access the Project Tor site. And it's coming up fine for you you say? Wonder does it depend on ISP or browser, we're with Vodafone, I'm using Opera.

Link works fine for me (already have ToR). I agree with checking your date settings.

    Works fine for me.

If you are using a corporate network it may show you an error, because your admin is snooping on all traffic essentially. This is usually the cause when I see "bad certificate" messages.

Alternatively, if your local machine was "owned" you might see this. If so, then Tor will not help - the "feds" are already on to you :p

Time and date are fine. On a home network. Will check Chrome, maybe a different browser will help.

Call me paranoid but I was actually just thinking this, well, ya never know  Guess I'll have to stop watching nasty porn now, god damn it. Guess I can still look for that fake passport though, you know, a collectors item :D

Same thing with Chrome. So, what to do now......if the machine was "owned" how to "un-own" it?

Would it be ok to download it from CNET if the publisher was "CBS Interactive"? Shouldn't it be The Tor Project?

Huh....if I use a proxy/VPN I can access www.torproject.org, what does that suggest to you?

Maybe DNS issue? Try pinging the site by name, also its [86.59.30.40]
PM me an email if u like and I'll send you the tor installer

Luco you don't have a problem accessing the site, you have a problem with the certificate. Something is interfering with the SSL chain. This does not stop you accessing the site, but it does warn you that your connection is not reliably secure.

Thanks but my wife's PC can get there, thanks anyway......mine can't though and we use the same IP  How could it just affect only one pc on a home network I wonder?

I see, I think. But shouldn't my wife's pc also be blocking her from going there as we use the same network?

Nothing is blocking you, it's a warning message. You can still access the site...

It doesn't give me the option to proceed as warnings like that sometimes do. I simply have to do nothing or "return to safety".

Actually my bad, the server is setup to refuse the connection because of bad certs - as you indicated in the OP. If it works for your wife on the same network but with different PC, then the problem is down to your local machine.

Possibly malware has installed a dodgy root certificate? Don't use that machine to do any online banking or shopping tbh. Try to clean it with antivirus etc, failing that reinstall OS.

Get tor on wife's pc and transfer by usb stick or shared folder

No worries. Ran Malwarebytes, it quarantined a few things. Ran full scan, Avast Free, all clear. But still no luck. We might try a fresh re-install of the OS tomorrow, we have it backed up on a disc. I do online banking and shopping all the time on this pc :( No probs to date but ya never know. Thanks anyway.

Yeah we'll probably do that tomorrow, probably after re-installing the OS. Thanks.

Thanks. Will have to wait for the wife to tell me, lol. I seriously know next to nothing about stuff like this.

Try setting your dns to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 - Google public dns service.

Nope this has been going on for months...... I guess I could try 8.8.8.8 and see what happens..
