I guess this is what happens when you come late to the party!

    Hello Trig!!! :)

Funny, I always thought your name was short for trigonometry. :o

    Any way....

What would the morning of a race look like for you - what is your routine?

Have you any favorite or lucky articles of clothing/gear/accessories that you ALWAYS have with you at a race? Additionally, have you any pre-race/race superstitions?

Do you eye up the competition at a race, and if so, what are you looking for and/or what are you thinking?

During a race, do you feel you are tougher mentally or physically?

Do you talk any trash to your competition before/during a race?

Do you ever hum a song (or songs) in your head while you are racing? If so, what might be one of those songs?

    Have you ever done karaoke?

Could you hold your own with Tunney on the dance floor?

You and one boardsie in a crazy-fun bar for one evening with all drinks paid for, who would that boardsie be and why?

You say your nemesis is shotgun, that you would love to beat him....but how do you stack up against him in the romance department?

    Hi Pmaldini

favorite restaurant- used to be the green onion but since that closed down it would have to be cornstore

    favorite holiday resort

We went to Salou a few times with the eldest 2 kids when they were younger,
going to Palma Nova in 2 weeks with the 4 kids and this will be our first foreign holiday in 5 years so I might have to say Salou for the moment

    money no object car

    Aston-Martin-AMV10-Pic.jpg

This is a concept car but it is sex on wheels- Aston Martin AMV10
or maybe the Aston Martin topless vanquish volante

    aston-martin-vanquish-volante-red-hd-wallpaper.jpg?t=1372254525000

    money no object motorbike

Definitely a nice Harley davidson fatboy...

    harley-davidson-fatboy-wallpaper.jpg

if any of your kids were to excel in any sport what sport would you like that to be

difficult question, I would love them all to be great swimmers- The eldest is dying to try triathlon so i might like him to try excel in that, I would love to say something that brings in money but honestly I just want them to be happy

and i see you live just over the road, give or take 10 miles or so, we must hook up for a cycle 1 of the days

Yes there is actually a nice boards group living locally , I reckon we should all meet up for a cycle soon, what do ye think, Shotgunmcos, solobally8, mossym, pmaldini and bennymul... would be nice to put a face to some of the names, maybe an evening cycle some evening from birdhill roundabout??-seems central to everyone!

Seriously liking your choice on cars and bike:)

Definitely on for the cycle, some serious pedigree there, I think bennymul and yourself can lead out and I will stay well back in the slipstream:D

    Hi DD

What would the morning of a race look like for you - what is your routine?

Morning of race I would be up early, have a good breakfast- usually coffee, 3 weetabix and maybe some brown bread and jam, I would have all my gear laid out from night before but would double check everything, I would give my bike another once over checking brakes and pumping tyres, load everything in my car, kiss the wife and kids goodbye and off to the race, I would usually try to get to transition early and get everything set up, normally not much warming up as I would use the swim to warm up, chat with the bro usually and anyone else who's around, never really much nerves, thats about it I think!

Have you any favorite or lucky articles of clothing/gear/accessories that you ALWAYS have with you at a race? Additionally, have you any pre-race/race superstitions?

Surprisingly a No and No again, nothing I always need with me and no pre-race rituals- not that superstitious

Do you eye up the competition at a race, and if so, what are you looking for and/or what are you thinking?

Yes I do actually, I always look to see what big names are around, whats the competition like, always wondering will this be my race, will this be my top ten or my podium, love going around looking at some of the flash tt bikes and flash helmets- love even more passing most of them during the bike leg- but not loving when they pass me again on the run leg :o

During a race, do you feel you are tougher mentally or physically?

Definitely Mentally- something from rowing- I always push myself to the limit and ignore the pain my body is feeling

Do you talk any trash to your competition before/during a race?

Not really trash talk, just shooting the breeze mainly

Do you ever hum a song (or songs) in your head while you are racing? If so, what might be one of those songs?

    Have you ever done karaoke?

Could you hold your own with Tunney on the dance floor?

Dont think I hum anything in my head, usually focussed on passing the net person,

Did Karaoke once at my brothers 21st and was booed off the stage :o:o

Could probably hold my own on the dance floor depending on how many drinks I had in me

You and one boardsie in a crazy-fun bar for one evening with all drinks paid for, who would that boardsie be and why?

actually dont know...maybe shotgun as we would have loads to chat about!! maybe tunney as I think we would have a good night reading everyone on boards.... cannot say any of ye ladies on boards as the wife is reading this haha ;);)

You say your nemesis is shotgun, that you would love to beat him....but how do you stack up against him in the romance department?

Not a chance- no one could stand up to shotgun in the romance department- he is too smooth!

Thanks for the Q's DD and I hope I answered them ok

    Hi Tunney
I work in the same company as Mossym but not the same area- I work in the manufacturing far removed from Mossy's expertise...this is as much as I know about Ant+ and Bluetooth LE

    Comparing The Technologies
A number of similarities exist between ANT and BLE, but their differences are stark (see the table). Both are good choices for very low-power applications. ANT has the simplest protocol with minimum overhead, and it supports more different types of network topologies. BLE is a star-only format, while ANT supports all types including mesh. More vendors offer Bluetooth chips and modules versus ANT, though.

    Hi Catweazle..

    Favourite movie character?

I love no brainer movies- zombies/werewolves/super hero movies/
My 2 favourite characters are Kate Beckinsale as Selene in Underworld or Milla Jovovich as Alice in Resident Evil- I'll go with Milla I think

    Favourite scene from a movie?

Has to be the beach scene fro Apocalypse now with Robert Duvall "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning"

Have you ever had a moustache?

No.. shaved the beard once or twice to leave the moustache but wife made me get rid of it straight away

You are a good man for pictures on this thread - 3 hottest ladies?

Ha Ha, nice try- I'm not posting any pics of hot ladies on this
3 hottest ladies- My Wife, Julia Roberts and Salma hayek

Most embarrassing song that you like

This is actually embarrassing- in my car at the moment in the radio I have Ali G- Me Julie!! I turn it on some times when I'm down and it always brings a smile to my face :o:D

Man crush?- Has to be the Big Man- who other than Paul O'Connell- he is truly legendary

Any disclosure Demi Moore like incidents with the boss since you were caught with the porno wink.png

Ha ha- Laughed hard at this- She is long gone from my place of work now thank God- no more incidence's since !!

    Thanks For the Q's Catweazle

Haha DD you saw my fb post

Yes I am gonna use this forum too to talk about the special women in my life.

My mam was diagnosed with Bowel cancer 3 years ago. She had an operation to get half her colon removed and then went through 9 months of chemo, my mam is a fighter and battled well and came out the other side, In her next scan they found a lump on her liver and had to remove half her liver, she went through another 9 months of chemo with all her hair falling out this time but that did not deter her as she fought another battle head on with a smile on her face the entire time, her last scan alas has picked up another lump this time on her lung. Now 2 months ago she faced her 3rd major operation in 3 years to get half of a lung removed -this was the most severe of all 3 operations but again her recovery rate was nothing less than remarkable, My Mam is a strong fit woman and has never smoked in her life (but she knows how to enjoy herself). My Mam has overcome huge obstacles and has just been told this week that she is at the moment "cancer free" and she needs no more chemo. We are all over the moon with this news and none more so than my 9 year old daughter

My 9 year old Daughter Emily saw my mam losing her hair and since then wanted to do a little something for people suffering from Cancer.Along with her Mam and myself she found the Rapunzel foundation, this foundation makes wigs using donated childrens hair for children that don't have any hair any more due to illness, since my daughter found this website she started growing her hair long and measuring it every few weeks, today was my brave daughters big day and she has made me such a proud father, I would like to share with ye the smile on her face when she was getting her hair cut to give to a sick child.

My mother and daughter are both a huge inspiration to me and I admire them both so much!
From a very very proud son and father

Your A races, same as mine.

HOTW is only 12 weeks away now. What splits and finish time are you predicting for yourself.

Obv Lost Sheep is a bit further away bit what's the target there.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,126 ✭✭✭Trig1

    Hi Kurt

    Uphill or downhill?

Downhill big time...love speeding downhill- a bit too much actually- have had a few near misses in races - I would consider myself a little wreckless downhill but I can make up god time, I have been working on my uphills as well though.

    Chased or chasing?

Chasing!! I thrive on catching and passing people- and usually after my swim there are loads to pass out :o

Glass half full or half empty

I'm usually an optimistic type of Guy so I would say glass half full

    Lochte or Phelps

I'm gonna go with Phelps for the sole reason that I have see him more , he was a class swimmer in his prime

    Thanks for the Q's Kurt

    Hi BTH,
Is it that close already  , If you had asked me a few weeks ago my predictions would probably be better but with these injuries I would probably be doing well to finish the race, but lets just say if I get back to proper fitness in the next few weeks and with my bike going really strong this year these are perfect scenario predictions:

Swim (if its buoyed right and if it is actually 1500m) I would be delighted to be exiting the water bang on 28mins

Bike- If I was on the bike heading off at 30mins I would be happy out and if there was no vicious headwind like last year I could target maybe a 1:16 bike.

With a transition of 1min after that I reckon I would be on my race plan pace if I was running at 1hr48mins gone,, the running will be the unknown and on current form I will probably be lucky to beat last years time, but if I did hit a good running spell before kilkee I would be looking for maybe sub 44mins, did 45:xx last year-

Ideally I would love to knock 5mins off last year time of 2:37:xx so maybe 2:32:xx

The lost Sheep I will be targeting the 5hrs for that, reckon I could knock big chunk of time of my cycle time and running time (again depending on injuries) did 5:14 last year

Trig sorry to hijack ur thread but this seems as good a spot as any to put this. That is great news about ur mam, ye must be delighted.

The Professor Hollywood Memorial Cup will take place on the 5th of May 2014 in O'Moore Park Co Laois. Tickets can be purchased from www.charitygaamatch.com. The match will be played by those who have received treatment for cancer. The aim of the match is to raise funds for the cancer units in St. Luke's and St. James's hospital and to highlight to people that you can still remain active and fit during treatment. The two teams will be managed by Mick O'Dwyer and Brian Cody.

In 1998 I had a tumour removed from my neck, at the time I was told it was something on the lines of luekemia and I'd have to go for chemo and radiotheraphy, as a 19 yr old I didn't really take on the full gravity of this, my family and friends were a lot more worried, I just asked could it be healed and was told yes so didnt worry.
Luckily for me it turned out to be a very rare beign tumour, so after a few weeks in hospital it was removed and I've had no trouble since, TG. There is a risk it could come back but not a lot I can do about that so I never worry about it.
It did give me first hand experience of the feeling and more importantly the effects cancer can have on those close to you. Since then I've always tried to do my bit for various charities. When I explained my story to the organisers they were only too happy for me to play.
So I'm lining out for a GAA match for the first time in three years, I can't wait. We had the option of lining out for Brian Cody's or Mick O'Dwyers team, a no-brainer for me, being in Micko's dressing room and hearing what he has to say will be amazing.

Here's a link to the event:

and an article in the local paper from another of the Mayo men playing

If anyone is around Portlaoise that weekend it would be great to increase the crowd. I'll organise something over the summer to raise money
