bar the ploughing.. where is best value in stihl in Ireland!? or online

Depends what size saw you looking for. What I found the best deals is when you get a good rep with your local dealer either husky or stihl or look out for sales.

ive had being buying bits and 20/30 euro here and there for local lad to fix it

have 3 x 18" chains that I hope would fit a new saw.. im thinking stihl .. where are doing good deals? Amazon or up north or where is best at the moment for a good deal and what model would ye recommend.. I heard the MS261 is super but E866 in place in Baileboro cavan

    thanks in advance

I assume the price you quote from the place in bailieboro is the online price?

Try giving them a call and see what they can do for you.

think someone advised me stihl with white handle is best of (dont know why but) dealer who fixed my ama said if you could get a 90s saw in good nick buy one , husky or stihl. said easier to fix rather than new "disposable" plastic midels his words not mine, im still looking even though the ama is going a treat since i changed to oregan bar and 2 chains ( some kind soul advised me about here for €55 )and proper oil

In case people missed it, there's a Husqvarna 242XPG on adverts.ie at the moment. Located down in Killarney and fitted with the starter cover from the earlier 242 (just minor cosmetic difference) but clean looking saw all the same. €320 asking price with a new bar and chain I think.

If it's a good runner it'd be a lot better than those Hyundais and other cheap saws.

A little high on price I think but if it could be bought for €250ish plus courier it'd be a great deal.

That 261 seems very expensive I recently brought a 362 for €875. It pays to shop around. I.e local was €1000 for the 362 with 18" bar a 25 minute car ride got me down to €875. both shops selling Stihl.

Brother bought Honda ride on Lawn mower in the springtime off AM Rentals, saved a bout €700 ( mainly VAT saving) over IRE list price.
Found AM very good to deal with and they delivered to his door and he paid them on arrival.

Plus they didn't use a courier, they deliver with their own van. maybe different with a chainsaw.

got a stihl MS391-excellent saw-cut through big timber like a knife through butter, but 40 hours in the exhaust sheared off. Dealer said several came back with same problem as revs set too high in factory.

Does your dealer think that the saw is running at too high rpm that stihl should have set saw to run at?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 730 ✭✭✭SILVAMAN

stil told him it was set too high at the factory-several saws have come back with the same problem

He said it was Kevin but ill report back on it once I've got it and manual etc, too late there.. On Stihlusa it only shows the one 261 m tronic as an upgrade from the old 260??!!

Yeah, they stopped selling non-MTronics quite a while ago. The question is whether that is new stock, or old stock...

Hi. In my suggestions you should buy Oregon CS250-E6. It's price is around 400$ but it will prove hammer in your basket. It's electric and cordless which makes it perfect for moderate to higher work load.

Moderate to higher work load, of what kind?

A full day out cutting firewood or trimming the ends of some 12x2 on a roofing job?

There's nothing wrong with a cordless chainsaw but they're not a 'do it all' tool. They're too expensive for the guy who'd consider a 100 euro chainsaw and won't last long enough to do the jobs the guy spending 500-600 on a saw wants to do.

A good tool but they're a specialised tool and don't work as a substitute for a good saw that'll run all day and won't need to be plugged in several times to do so. All in my humble opinion but I'd say a few will be in agreement.
