    Hello

I am starting my first restoration of a Pye P75.

Wondering if anyone knows where to get spare parts from. One of the knobs on the side is broken and think I will need to replace some if not all of the valves.

    Thanks

    Chappers.

join http://www.forum.radios-tv.co.uk/ This isn't a useful place for Vintage Restoration.

    Also see http://www.radiomuseum.org

Unless they have gone white or heater gone the valves are often OK.

The BIGGEST issue is leaky paper capacitors. The one between output valve grid and preceding anode leaking can destroy output valve, output transformer, main PSU rectifier and mains transformer :(

Knobs can be replicated if no-one on http://www.forum.radios-tv.co.uk/ has a spare.

    Both links have Irish members.

Do not power on the set till capacitors are checked.

Note that the voltage on a DMM is too low to test the capacitors for leakage. I use a pair of modified flash electronics each with 2 x 1M Ohm resistors in series with the output. One is 300V and the other 600V. Even 30V is too low a test voltage.
