    Hi

I live in castelknock and would like to know were would be the best pool in this area to take my 5mt old baby. I have the nappies to put on her, would a normal baby swim suite be ok for her or should I get on of the wetsuit things.

Finglas pool is supposed to be good for young kids.

    Try get a velcro wetsuit.
Babies can get cold quickly in the pool.
Some pools are heated to 31st. Which is nice and warm for the baby.... and parent.
We used to go to John of God's in kilmainham on Saturday morning.

I would also recommend a neoprene wetsuit. Often the pools don't seem as warm as u might think they're supposed to be and I've seen many a baby really shivering. Finglas is good. I imagine ballymun is similar. Aqua babies do lots of courses on the north side - we did one in Alsaa beside the clarion at the airport. Or maybe one of the gyms in castleknock has a pool? I know Westwood in clontarf is great for baby swimming and non members can sign up for the classes too tho they're less structured than aqua babies.

Highly recommend Inspire gym on Navan road. Has a baby pool and parent and toddler swimming on thursdays for €5 when i went last year.

Also have family swims on weekends.

We got a neoprene suit which Id recommend also, we got a Baby Warma one.

I wouldn't go to the NAC... I don't think the pool is very baby friendly, there are no specific swim times for parents and toddlers for instance and the leisure park can be quite crowded and loud on weekends too.

Yes that's the type of suit- I'd go with a big size even if u have average size baba as there's very little give in them.

Haven't been to nac- have been meaning to go. I'd have a look first wo paying if u can. As January said it could be noisy, tho maybe ok mid wk? It might also be quite dear & really you'll find 20 mins in the pool is plenty the first few times.
Just remembered dcu do baby swim lessons too and think they have pay as you go option.

I've taken both of mine swimming, youngest was about 7 months. Definitely without a doubt get the proper neoprene swimsuit. Your baby will be way to cold, and obviously the swim nappies which you have. Pool I used did the aqua baby classes which were quite expensive but worth doing one course them to see the best ways of holding and moving your baby through the water, and just for ideas of things to do with them in the pool.
The only problem with aqua babies was the time was 1pm on a sunday, right in the middle of nap time, then food time. It was too stressful getting them ready for that time (other parents were saying the same), so if you do choose classes, try and get a time that suits your routine.

    Hi

Thanks all for your help, so I took my baby to the pool on sat and she loved it, she did not even cry once and stayed in for like 40 min and even at that she could have stayed longer as her air, lips or any part of her was NOT blue. She loved the water could not have been any more happier. I go the neoprene wetsuit it was great it keep her warm and she looked so cutie in it.

In the end we went to the National Aquatic Centre and I have to say it was great, it was not too busy (there at 11.30am sat morning), the pirates pool part was busy so just when over to the beach area were the wave pool is, it was great as there was loads of space and it slowly gets deeper so u can take your time and move in slowly, we even when around the lazy pool part.

The only down side was the price €14 for me and €14 for my wife, they did say as the hole place is open it was full price so I must check to see if it is cheaper if we go earlier in the morning.

If anyone has any questions on it send me a message

FYI, the water in the pirate pool is much warmer than the other part. A lot of parents with babies hang around the side furtherst from the main pool area and seem to be fine there.
