Theres loads of old threads on this place but they are all years old so thought i'd start a new one.
Im thinking of moving to this place very soon and was just looking for some opinions on it? Anyone in particular thats good there? I want someone who listens and doesn't have you in and out in 5 minutes

I wouldn't recommend them personally. Many an issue over the years.

It's impossible to see your GP on the same day in Keogh P. So if you'll get sick on thursday your appointment date will be next wednesday. IMHO it makes no sense that's why CareDoc is my GP.

However I can recommend my wife's favourite. The only doctor who's not a member of McNamara family over there - Dr Deborah White.

Looks like its a non runner then. Most of my visits are for routine prescriptions so I can plan in advance but when your sick you cant really wait

Find the Keogh Practice excellent - Deirdre Plant is my GP and she's so nice, v diligent and great for following up on results, hospital appts etc. I usually see Sheenagh Macnamara if she's not available and she and any others I've seen have been lovely too and I've never felt like they were rushing me out the door. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

Do you know any of the male doctors? Was looking at Geoff Plant for myself. The fact there are so many doctors appeals to me in that if your regular doctor is not there you can see another.

I've been to Geoff once, v friendly and referred me to a specialist with a painful hand/wrist - turned out to be a tendon problem so was very on the ball there!

I think you mentioned a medical card in your other thread, i don't have one but know a few people who do - you may have to register with a particular doctor but you can see any of them.

You have a better chance of a quick appt if you can get about town, they have surgeries in Ferrybank and Lismore Park as well as Ballybricken.

Geoff Plant would be my regular doctor. Is a lovely man to deal with and has my high blood pressure sorted quick enough. One thing about Geoff is that he spends nearly all his time in the Ferrybank clinic. No problem getting an appointment but might be time consuming if you are living on the city side of the bridge.

I live on the Dunmore Rd so thats an issue.
Im caught up in the brenner clinic debacle and finding it hard to find a doctor willing to take me on the medical card

Is it that he is only in Ballybricken on certain days?

I used to think he was very good, now i find him a bit dismissive of concerns you might have, even though i might only be in there once a year.

Doctor Chris Venter is my GP. I had to go to caredoc a few years ago and he was the doctor on duty. I found out after that he was based in the Keogh Practice and been going to him ever since. He's one of the few doctors based there that will give you time and not try rush you in and out quickly. Always feel at ease with him.

Darragh Brennan in Johnstown is very good also. He was recommended by someone on here years ago

    I go to Dr. O'Nuallain

I dispute all you say as from my experience he is a very good and empathetic doctor with a lot of common sense and practicality.

He does not give out sick certs easily. He believes if you are not going to cause infection or cause risk to the workplace that you can work.

He does not give out an antibiotic easily. What he has done is give a prescription with the provisio that it is only to be used if say a cut becomes infected or a cold goes on to the chest. He has even taken the time to explain to my then 12 year old about antibiotics for colds etc.

He is far from lax and is is very conscientious, in my opinion, having been a patient for 10 years. When I was quite ill a few years ago he was excellent and had me over at WRH being checked out in a matter of minutes.

I'm going to him on monday. Im.on long term medication so I hope he can understand that. Some doctors over the years have tried to take me off it but it just doesn't work.
What sort of age is he? im a young guy with some medical issues so want someone i can easily relate to.

I went to Dr O'Nuallain yesterday.
First impressions were mixed to be honest. He really knew what he was talking about so I have no doubt that hes a good doctor and have never once heard anything about him. I just felt that he was a bit business like if that makes sense.
I want a doctor that I can easily discuss things with and feel that they are listening to me and taking on board my concerns.
It happens that I was actually unwell yesterday so maybe he felt that he needed to deal with the issue in hand but I have a number of medical issues that I wanted to talk about and I just didn't get a chance to do that.
I know too that I am trying to replace the last doctor I had, and I will never find another like him so maybe I need to give this guy a bit longer

Give it time......you both have to get to know each other. Maybe he is reserved at first. I find him kind....

Chris Venter is a great Dr.. South African guy. He is the type of Dr that rather than tell you to make an appointment with the nurse to remove a wart or verruca, he waltz you down to the nurses station and does the job there and then..

Yeah was going to move there but it seems that all the doctors work different days so it's not easy to build a relationship with a particular doctor. On their website it says the younger Fergus McNamara has a interest in one of my main problems so might give him a try if Dr O Nuallain doesn't work out.

Do you know what days Fergus McNamara is available? I think I'll give where I am a couple of months though.
