    How's the second half been?

Some good chances for both teams. Crazy that it's still 1-0.

    How's the second half been?

Lots of possession from Barca. A couple of half chances.

Koke could have finished it off for Atleti.

One on one with Pinto and he bottled it.

    'Twas Gabi.

    Another terrible call from Webb.

Arguably Messi's worst performance in Europe tonight. He's been so hot and cold since his injury.

Vicente Calderon is probably the best atmosphere I've experienced in person. Atleti fans are great.

    Great effort from Rodriguez.

Atletico should really be out of sight, another great chance for them.

    Absolutely delighted for Atletico Madrid.

Though I wouldn't have minded seeing Chelsea have another crack at Barca.

Hopefully not too wrecked for the game against Getafe away.

Barca were a complete shambles tonight. Credit for that though goes to atletico, they out fought their opponents in every department.

    Thoroughly deserved for Atletico! :D

Can't believe that only ended 1-0.

Heroic performance. A joy to watch.

And it's all over! The brave Rojiblancos overcome the overhyped and reviled Catalans in a display of power, pace and majesterial defending! Diego Simone is surely one of the finest managers in the history of the game!Fought like hungry tigers and had far more desire then their tame opponents!

    It is glorious, wonderous, magnificent!

God Barca went a bit mad there at the end sending in loads of crosses and long balls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,406 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

    Ahem, let me see:

Tonight justice has been done in the baying cauldron of Spain's finest city. The barbarians have stormed through the last remnants of the rusted gates of Barcelona's crumbling empire. Xavi cut a forlan figure. Defeated. Old. A relic of the past. Soon to be irrelevant. Messi rendered ineffective by the heroic Madrid players. A victory for an exciting determined team over tired and ragged opposition. That Barcelona were reduced to desperately launching the ball forward in the dying minutes said it all. This is the result we deserved. Football the ultimate victor.

90 minutes in which you need to score and you don't is bad. Worse though was the approach, far too many aimless crosses into the box, with 10 minutes to go it became Stoke football. That's not the Barcelona way, that type of football can't be allowed to continue, especially on occasions like this, it was nothing short of an insult to the philosophy of the club. It simply can't continue, changes must be made, none more so than at the top, that 90 minutes tonight must be the death-knell for Martino.

I beat you to it. :pac:

In all seriousness, Atleti were simply superb and throughly deserved to go through over the two legs. So many heroic displays. Godin, Raul Garcia and Koke being the stars imo.

Barca's loss of patience was startling. The amount of aimless stuff in the final ten or fifteen was amazing.
Stark contrast to Pep's team who came from behind against Chelsea and also played the same against Chelsea that they lost to at the Nou Camp.

Superb result, unfortunately only caught the last few minutes with work but the calderon was in superb voice. Hopefully atleti can win it now, a league and cl double would be amazing but the season can only go down as an amazing one already. Simeone is a smooth operator for sure.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

As ridiculous as it sounds, that win has probably handed the league to Barca. If Atletico manage to win La Liga, whilst playing at least another 2 games in the CL, it'll be absolutely incredible. Hope they get a bash at Bayern.

Winning either would be fantastic. It would be completely devastating to finish the season trophy-less.

Well done Atleti, great result. Good to see Barca taken down a peg.

Is that 5 games v Barca they haven't been beaten in this season?

Yep. 5 games where Messi hasn't scored too.

And as dusk fell upon the Calderon, not a regista was to be seen.

There's still a league title to retain and the majority of that Barcelona side will star for Spain as they bid to retain the World Cup, so still plenty of time to see some quality regista play and glorious tiki taka.

Barcelona have never been ones for patience. The diving and kicking out and choking doesn't usually take long once they go behind but Atletico tonight didn't give them a chance to do it.

Strongly disagree but on that remark. Watched most of their games the last 5 or or so years. They've gone behind a lot. Including against Atletico in the Super Copa none of what you're saying happened.

Only time's I vividly recall were against Mourinho teams, make of that what you will.

Tika taka is done mate, there is no substitute for pacy agressive counter attacking football.

Happened twice against Arsenal. I don't generally watch them in La Liga when they have plenty of games against crap opposition to make up for a poor draw.

I don't agree and the performance against Real Madrid away a few weeks ago back that up. Imo tonight the wrong approach was taken and the problem, imo, was not enough tiki taka and too much aimless crossing. Admittedly a couple of areas in the team could do with strengthening but the style and philosophy must stay the same.

Barca were comical at the back. I hope Simeone can keep this Atletico side together in the summer.

    Also Howard Webb :pac:

How did Webb not give a penalty against Mascherano?!

Both teams could have had 4 goals each!

Howard Webb lol. How in the name of god is he classified as a top referee?
