Even if it's a great show it will never beat the glory day's of Baldonnel, when you had close encounters with fast, loud jets, and fighter jets such as the A-10, F-15, F-16, some real noisy 1-11's!

I don't think anyone here was suggesting that at all.

I know, but just thinking of the airshow reminded me of the airshows years ago!

Are any of the aircraft involved stopping over in Dublin?

The Vampires and Hunter will do a flypast over Bray on Friday so i'd say they will be based out of Baldonnel. Would be great if they flew out of Weston. According to Met Eireann -weather looking reasonable on Sunday. Warm and Sunny with slight chance of rain.

Am gonna head up to Baldonnel Friday and keep the scanner on, the Mig has been removed from the display list and The Blades wont be there either, the show will be short, be over at 4.30pm Id say, no USAF or RAF last year, bring back Salthill !

Nothing operating out of Baldonnel apart from the Air Corps, jets going to DUB ...

Would be nice to catch the CASA like this on Sunday.

I don't mean to be overly negative but I can't help think the Bray airshow is piss poor.
Advertising it as the biggest airshow in Ireland when clearly Newcastle county Down is the biggest with a much better line up.

Having a big interest in aviation, avid attendee of airshows and PPL I have to think Ireland should really do better than the bray airshow.

Saw Miss Demeanour (from M50) out for a test flight over Bray a little while ago. Are others due to fly past today or is tomorrow the main practice day?

If they turn up, Raf Tornado at Bal today.

Really? That will be interesting as there's no RAF Tornado display this year, they could only manage one on static at RIAT...

False information. There was no Tornado at Casement today.

yep Strikemaster, Hunter and Vamps all landed at Dublin airport this evening .

Vampires requested to land in formation, Dublin ATC refused... the reply from the Vampires was 'But we always do it'

    German Tornado at Bal.

Would have thought it would be more logical in a place like Dublin Airport to do a formation landing. Otherwise they are carrying out a formation break over the field??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,160 ✭✭✭EchoIndia

They made a stream landing, i.e. one behind the other.

    Yep 119.60.

    Thanks

Are they setting up a temporary ATC locally like they did for flightfest or running from Dub?

And sure weren't the Vamp's just trying to help out the busy ATCO's in DUB by only using 1 landing slot!

Tell us more please .... :)

    When did it arrive?

It is not visible from outside the base - so is it hangared?

Any idea when it's due to depart?

I'll say it again, there is no Tornado at Baldonnel.

Anyone ever watched from the top of Killiney Hill, I assume it's used as a waypoint into the display arena?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,124 ✭✭✭Mech1

119.600 (display frequency), now in the mix, tomorrow morning I will tighten up the feed a bit to concentrate more on the days event.

Avery nice practice display from Aer dynamics at Bray today

Any actual evidence of a Tornado at Baldonnal cause all we have at the moment is "yes there is/no there isn't" back and forth a few times??

Given that initially it was claimed an RAF Tornado had visited which was later changed to a German Tornado, you can rest assured 'it' was neither.

No doubt there would be photos posted had such an aircraft visited.

Is there any holding points for the aircraft before they head for bray? Just want somewhere handy to see them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 425 ✭✭airbusa320

I was in Bray today and Aer dynamics do a very nice display as well as Team raven nice to see the 2 chippies as well

I am heading up to the Air Show with the little dude tomorrow.

Will it be mayhem to get parking and a decent spot?

First time at the Air Show so I am not sure what parking or viewing spots to go to.

    Thanks

Is it worth a drive to bray with a 2 year old kid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,061 ✭✭✭nomdeboardie

Apologies if this has already been asked/answered, but is there a rough timetable for the various aircraft anywhere? I can't see one on the event website(?)...are they going in order of the "Participating Aircraft" list?

Also, has anyone watched from the top of Bray Head before? I've viewed from the beach previously.

From http://www.brayairdisplay.com/Directions/ it looks like there's no parking close to the seafront, but free (if you print out their linked permit) in surrounding areas, with a free shuttle bus :)
(I haven't gone by car myself (cycled a couple of years ago))

    No.

    In your opinion.

While the Bray air show may not have the same range of aircraft in comparison to other free air shows in the north that you have already alluded to, it does still attain a lot of interest. Last year 85,000 turned out.

My own two cents would be that given that the poster you replied to has a two year old to consider, it would certainly be a ample way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon.

    Sorry Negative G
I believe his opinion to be correct
Having brought young kids to this and events similar it can be a nightmare purely down to the wants and needs of a child of that age
    Im Thirsty
    Im hungry
    Im cold/too hot
i need to go to the toilet
Im bored - (Kids of that age dont get the aircraft thing and the wait between displays)

In Fairness its only for about 6-7 upwards(aprx) and even at that expect the above complaints

There only kids after all :-)

But what about the RAF and German Tornados you told us about? Or did you make it all up?

I would class both the Hunter and Vampire pair as worth going to see, in fact I have friends traveling over 2 hours to see them.

But then again they are real aviation enthusiasts.

I'm actually glad the Blades aren't included this year. Don't get me wrong they are excellent but after several years of them something different was needed. I think the much requested jets(even if not supersonic) more than make up for the Blades.
