    Possibly?

Fab not start in goal given he has started all fa cup matches?
On paper that team should be too strong for Wigan.

When Ozil gets fit i wouldnt mind seeing santi dropped for rest of the season

Monrael and Podolski do not work together on the left side. If Gnabry is fit i'd play him on the left side of midfield and use Podolski as a sub. He is usually good when he comes on as sub.

    Definitely keep Fab for this.

The dude is focused, wants a medal and is putting himself in the shop window.

Huge error to reward Szczney with an FA cup run at this stage imo.

    \edited to add:

Also, it might spur Sir Chesney on next year to get a medal

we haven't discussed his comments yet have we?

he's been poor overall this season.
    Needs to cop himself on.

Thought the comments were pretty bad form myself, also made me wonder if the "togetherness" of the squad everyone keeps talking about isn't getting exaggerated a little bit too.

I didnt see it discussed but didnt want to drag it up incase it had been. Pretty disgraceful tbh from him i thought, especially when his performances leave a lot to be desired for. We wont win league titles or champions leagues with players like him starting anyways imo. Love him as a player but definitely wouldnt mind shipping him out for a proper winger

The interview made me pretty angry – I can understand someone who is being let down by his team mates but Santi’s been pretty bad this season. He obviously didn’t have a problem signing a new deal there with a nice pay rise.

He needs to put on some performances. I know lads get on Poldi’s back, but Cazorla’s been no better this year.

Ox, Gibbs and Rosicky all involved in training today. Fingers crossed they'll all be available tomorrow.

If I could play devil's advocate for a minute, I'd say that he is saying pretty much what a lot of the fans are thinking so we can't deny that there's an element of truth.

However, he has been poor this season so he has himself to blame just as much as everyone else, and I find it ironic that our best chance to push for trophies involves him being dropped to the bench.

No offence but comments liks that are an awful load of boll*x. I know there are only 5 league games left but the squad is in no way big enough or strong enough to be considering that (even if he hasn't been consistently producing the goods this season).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,502 ✭✭✭Fuzzy_Dunlop

As Arseblog said, I don't see why people have such a problem with Santi's comments seeing as it's what everyone else has been saying, plus he was saying 'we', not excluding himself.

Santis best position is #10 and we have a better #10 when Ozil is fit so no harm wanting our best players to play in their best positions?

Not saying that we're the only one or anything but it's important.

That's why I want to see Wenger stay and win. That's why I want to keep Diaby and give him every chance to come back and play for us.

Yeah we can sign a new manager, spend money and maybe pick up a title when it clicks for that manager or the next.

It will mean so much more if we do it this way.

Wenger should go if he feels he cant change his ways and take arsenal to the next level.

if he really loves arsenal he will do the best he can for the club, be it manage them or leave for the good of the club

I won't spend any of it, I'll give myself the No. 14 shirt and start myself in all the matches up front, then I'll go in goal after 20 minutes when I'm wrecked. :D

Wengers moaning about the loan system is absolutely ridiculous. Its as if Arsenal were ineligible to bring in players on loan the way he is going on. When he did he brought in a lad who was injured.

Without the loan system sure his own players like Joel Campbell would not be able to get experience. And besides Martinez is well within his rights to bring in players on loan. If i was Everton manager and could bring in players the calibre of Lukaku or Deuolfeu then I certainly wouldnt look a gift horse in the mouth. Ok i agree with the point of view that loan players should be allowed play against the parent. That rule that prevents them is just bonkers in my opinion.

It seems he is trying (pathetically in vain) to deflect attention from his own shortcomings. Painfully embarrassing at this stage. Whingeing about United selling Chelsea Juan Mata and Chelsea loaning Everton Lukaku.....and yet signing fúckin no one himself.

We don’t say “if arsenal don’t win things I’m off!”
Also we’re ok to say it though because we’re not in a position to change things, if Cazorla wants to win things why not play a bit better there Santi! Don’t give the ball away so pathetically vs Liverpool and Chelsea 

    .

what the papers say Wenger said:
Below, David Maddock writes: 'Roberto Martinez has hit back at critics of the loan system, branding them "ridiculous, stupid, and lazy".

'Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, whose team face missing out on the Champions League to the Blues, claimed the short-term signing of players was "indefensible".'

    what Wenger ACTUALLY said:
"I believe that if you want to continue the system we have to make them available against the teams that loaned them out - or the system is not defensible," said Wenger, before praising Martinez for doing a 'quality job'" on his loan recruits at Everton.

It drives me nuts how the papers do this and it's just lapped up. That's why I always look at what Wenger actually says rather than what the papers tell us he says. The vast majority of the time he's being entirely reasonable.

He has a point of view why not express it, it didn't harm anyone. And he does have a valid point.
If nobody ever spoke up then nothing would ever be changed. We wouldn't be getting in FIFA Fair Play, no goal line technology etc.

Because he was asked directly about it, and his point was that it does affect Arsenal (and others) in that it allows someone like Chelsea to loan out Lukaku for example - strengthening Everton and increasing the chance of them taking points from Chelsea's rivals, while not suffering the risk themselves.

Maybe so but id prefer he just addressed the worrying issues at his own club to be honest.

I think in general Arsene is very articulate and gives nuanced replies to journalists. He gives ammunition to the lowest common denominator press as they happily ignore the nuances and just go for the headline that will create most outrage.

Thats a good point but in fairness what is to stop Arsenal from doing it either? Its the same for every club. He is proving more of a disadvantage to his own club then anything else with his transfer policy. He has handicapped us as much as any other rule

He'll always answer questions given to him provided by the press. He just didn't start talking about the loan system for the sake of it.

Fair dinkum but i cant help feeling alot of his statements in the press conference is smoke and mirrors to deflect the real issues staring him in the face.

He overplays the 'paupers amongst the rich teams' game a bit.

He seems reluctant enough to answer questions to the Arsenal supporters as to why a team with 150m or so in reserve have to endure Yaya Sanogo as first backup.

It seems when the supporters ask the hard questions of Wenger and the board the wall of silence suddenly and conveniently goes up and supporters are as good as told shut their mouth and keep paying their £60

Do you have examples of this. Not disagreeing with you, just interested to see how he answered questions about deficiencies in the squad.

Don't really see a problem with what cazorla says, weren't most of the squad calling for signings in the summer. He'd know better than us about the mentality too, at least he's not throwing out excuses

And you can't expect players to hang around arsenal winning nothing, if they get a better opportunity they'll take it. Just like they took the better opportunity to move to arsenal in the first place

Sure the whole Kallstrom example is as good as any. Walcott and Ramsey both ruled out. A great need for bodies to come in and fill the gaps. In comes Kallstrom who is injured and Wenger brushed it off the same as nothing.

He did admit he'd have pulled out had he known. However the fact there was that incompetence and lack of urgency at such a crucial stage of the season is very worrying. His job it would seem has been too bullet proof all of these years.

Cazorla might have joined Arsenal on the expectation of playing alongside Van Persie in the first place like Pod and Giroud probably also did only then to see him sold

Tbh Cazorla needs to step up a bit IMO, to prove he was worth the bother of signing him. Not good enough for me this season, so him criticising, is a bit of an own goal.

Is it unreasonable to expect them to step up and win trophies for the club?

Find it difficult to take certain players moaning about it when they were part of the problem. eg. Van Persie, Nasri and Clichy were all apart of the Carling Cup bottlejob against Birmingham.

Was referring to Flamini last summer, actually. Not highly regarded after a poor enough career at AC, free, and fairly successful.

How often do other clubs turn up with gems from the rough? I think we actually have a pretty good record in that regard.

Fair point, and AdamD made good points too...
Im genuinely not having a go at Wenger.

Im genuinely interested in why Wenger has never really discovered 'a diamond in the rough in the PL. Thats the league he watches week in week out.
Just curious why he hasnt found ANYONE in the PL or even the Scottish to play a role for Arsenal . Fill a gap, just be a squad player that wil lgive a decent 90mins when needed.

I see the likes of Naismith run us ragged and wonder how come Arsenal never seem to pick up a player like him.
Surely if Wenger is so fantastic a man manager he can take somoene 70% there and give them the extra 30% .

Anyways roll on Saturday, Ive put my beer money on us to beat Wigan, looking forward to cup final... thats what summer memories are all about.
