Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'd hope we'd get Drmic and Remy.

For Drmic's price you couldn't really say no. We can play him across the line as well, as a LW if needs be.

Then Bender, Griezman and Aurier if Sagna goes and Id' be very happy.

That would be perfect. Drmic would give us cover in a few positions up front as well as being a long term prospect for main striker. 37m would be a waste on Draxler if we can get him for 4m when in reality neither player is the finished article yet.

Setting ourselves up for disappointment by just posting wishlists. Have we learned nothing?

Read this interview with Diaby there and two things struck me.

    http://www.teamtalk.com/arsenal/9298280/Arsenal-s-Abou-Diaby-happy-to-be-back-after-conquering-doubts-about-his-future

    1. Injury is certainly not the holiday camp people make it out to be. yes football players are paid alot, Yes us less fortunate in lower paid jobs suffer more but the majority of players want to be out on that field and Diaby is getting derided in some quarters because he is not willing to just give up on this dream. He has made astronomical efforts to get back. Certain quarters almost paint Diaby as a Michael Johnson type despite the fact the man is in immense physical condition and has done absolutely everything possible to return. His professionalism and patience will be rewarded if there is any justice

    2. He is probably highly unlikely to get another chance to represent France at a World cup. Back in 2010, what should have been a time to remember became a time to forget for the likes of Diaby who was one of the unfortunate French squad to get caught up in a storm caused by a minority in South Africa. Now he is 28 and has no game time to stake a claim for Rio whatsoever and to be honest he would be better not to even if he was given the chance in order to save his Arsenal career.

Really hope he can play against Norwich and make an impression. Great lad by the looks of things

Lads, Remy is an excellent player and he'd fit in very well at Arsenal. He's quick, strong, good touch, good movement and he's comfortable through the middle or out wide.

He shouldn't cost much so he ticks all the boxes for Arsenal. :pac:

Would he win you the league though? No. But he'd be a great squad player.

Dont agree with that. Did anybody think Anelka or Henry would win us a league when they were signed? He will score 30 goals a season with the service he would get here.

    Sagna is 100% gone.

He did a lap ahead of the team with his kid last night.

Not saying he wouldn't be useful but you may be overrating him slightly there.

In my opinion we would have won the league had we signed Suarez and a top class DM last summer.
Suarez's would have scored the goals necessary and we would have conceded less.
Let's get it right this year and also put in place a proper game-plan for certain away games.
It's time we won the league again.

    FYP

In retrospect the extra 10-20 million would have obviously been worth it but given that he was banned for six games and questionable as regards discipline and whether he even wanted to stay in England, you can understand the decision.

If Wenger thought there were questions about him I doubt he would have made the initial bid in fairness.

Was there any reason given why Ramsey wasn't in the squad yesterday?

Not sure, I think it's fairly minor and they didn't want to risk him but who knows with us.

Random thoughts starting with the above:

I think we can't get one of those strikers. when you look at Rooney on 300K pw and Zlatan on 250 AFTER TAX!!, they're just out of our reach. There's only every like 6 or 7 or so in the world at any one time and when one comes up for grabs, someone with deeper pockets will grab them. I mean look at the demand for Falcao and Cavaini last year - they've been nothing too special and cost like 100 milllion between them.

But Henry, RVP etc didn't come as that level of striker. Wenger needs to find the next one of these and until they're developed, I think our world class midfield will have to carry strikers like Giroud and Sanogo.

I'd be really dissapointed if we signed a mid 20's 'OK' striker. We need someone to develop at the club into world class material. Maybe that's Draxler or Drimic or someone like that but it's not the Soldado, Osvaldo players that people were suggesting last season (even not given the struggles they've had this season). We do not need those players at the club, we need a young striker that Wenger sees huge potential in.

On the clean sheets: we get fcuk all credit for this in the face of the really bad away losses, which maybe we deserve. It is a massive massive thing to have fixed in the last couple of seasons though. We used to be getting turned over by poor teams when we were one or two ahead, this season, they're finding it hard to score

Which leads me to: our style. Our style is now about posession and working openings, interesting contrast to the invincibles, who were about counter attack. So what we've gained is the ability to play 'bus parked' lower teams very well, especially at home, but we've lost the savage away form of the invincibles (they went unbeaten away from home for two whole seasons). Surely to god there's a mix and for the tough away games we can get back to counter attacking? I think what we're missing in this regard is speed, Ozil, Ramsey give us speed of thought to launch the counter attack and play it cleanly but we need Walcott and someone else racing forward faster than anyone can cover. Also Vieira was a beast in the regard winning the ball way up the pitch skipping past one man and catching all the defenders facing the wrong way.

Wenger has shown he can coach both ways very well, i think the latter is just about personnel at this stage.

And overall why Wenger should stay is this. There has been nothing to show that he has lost the ability to unearth gems and train players to the top of the game. there has been a lot to show that we're going to stop
selling them once they get there.

Excellent summation - would agree with all of that.

I think a lot of us are now accepting of the fact that the £50 million striker may:

    a) not be there/available
    b) and more importantly - not fully necessary

By that I mean a striker is wholly necessary but need not be this £50 million superstar. The Remy type player would thrive in this current Arsenal side. The amount of chances that pace combined with Ozil/Ramsay/Cazorla/Wilshere would create could be devastating.

I like Remy also because he has that something special in the drawer too. That goal for QPR that he hit with the outside of the boot last year and some of his long range strikes for Newcastle offer a nice bit of unpredictability.

So I guess in summary I would much rather £10 million spent on Remy and £40 million strengthening elsewhere rather than vice versa. Be great to have Giroud, Remy, Walcott and one other very good striking option. Would equip us well for all challenges and variety of opposition.

So I am not gung ho on glamour signings. If we get 3 very effective players where they are needed then we will be very formidable next year even with injuries.

Keeping my mouth firmly shut when it comes to Liverpool. At least until city wrap it up ( they could easily f@ck it up) and we win the cup.
