Everybody talking about needing a striker but I think we need a strong defensive mid more than anything. As much as I love Arteta I think his legs are gone and is a weak link in our side against the top teams, dont get me wrong he will be great as a squad player but thats it in my opinion. Need somebody that is experienced and is a leader on the pitch.

Just having Sanogo's presence up front made a massive massive difference even though he didn't do very much.

We needed width, it's not Bac's fault, it's Wenger's for not replacing Walcott.

If Sanogo could just get his feet right. He got the ball so many times, that he made a massive difference when he came on. He will come good. I have no doubt about it, a Lukaku/ Drogba in the making, IMO.

Ozil, Wilshire, Mert, Kos (he's missing France's first two games), Verm are probably going to be playing a lot, if their countries make it through.

So it's not too bad are best player isn't going to the World Cup, most of our players are squad players only 5 will be starters. Here's hoping no serious injuries will happen.

Don't think Kos is going to miss the first two games?

Loved the atmosphere in The Merc on Saturday. I was in the main bar and I have to say the bar service was atrocious. I know it was packed but people were waiting 10 mins for a pint (and a good few left). Not enough bar staff to deal with the demand. I barman was washing glasses most of the time ffs. Surely that's why you have lounge staff.

Still we won, so happy days.

I was there too and it has to be said the organisation from the supports club was superb and the turnout was amazing. I here you on the bar staff it was a bit light got better by half time though they must have called a few in when they saw the demand. It was the only down on and otherwise savage effort.

i may be totally on my own here but I would possible have given Arteta man of the match at the weekend. I thought he was excellent.

I know what you are saying about against top sides though.

Louis van Gaal appointed the new manager of Manchester United. Great appointment imo! Hope we strengthen in the summer because Utd sure will!

I wouldn't take that as a given even with the best manager in the world there squad is poor.

All depends on what player they manage to bring in and even then could have a lot of new players trying to bed in simultaneously.

There are no forgone conclusions but I'd say it be at least another year or two before United are a serious threat again .

wouldn't go that far, they might get top 4 but they need serious rebuilding.

Van Persie as Captain, I don't think many would be happy with that. I wouldn't give it to Rooney either. Both guys have bad attitudes.

Well lads, just in the door from the airport, was offline all weekend as I was lucky enough to get a ticket to Wembley for Saturday. The first ten minutes were pretty deflating but once Santi got that free I knew it was going to be our day. I'm still on a high, I was right above the corner where Ramsey celebrated the winner:

I'll never forget the moment long as I live :D I don't know if it's just the post match euphoria or not but I really feel like this is the start of a new era for the club, COYG!

Just listened to Football Weekly. The only decision mentioned was the corner for Koscielny's goal. Nothing on the free kick for their 2nd or the FOUR penalties that weren't given. Incredible

We scored twice from placed balls :D:D
Didn't do that all year in a game.

Well folks im back and perhaps its for the best i was banned for the two weeks up to, during, and 48 hours after the cup final as sure...well it proved to be an emotional rollercoaster of a 120 minutes :D

Having finished my fourth and final year in college on Friday i looked forward to nothing more then kicking back and watching the cup final on Saturday and firstly i must say its absolutely terrific to see the club write their name in the history books again. This club is back where it belongs. Especially great to see Aaron Ramsey get the winner after his immense efforts this season. I honestly dont think he had a particularly good game (certainly not worthy of motm) if im being honest but he didnt shy away from the action and got better as things progressed.

The first eight minutes we looked awfully nervous. I suppose certain things such as pictures of the 'winners' bus being leaked during the week cant have helped the team. It put us on edge and under extra pressure while it was rocket fuel for Hull. They came out of the traps all guns blazing and knocked us kicking with two goals. We were guilty of leaving Tom Huddlestone unmarked from the edge of the box and as we all know that man can hit a ball with pace. Santi really should have faced it and no one marked Chester...1-0. If were being honest it could have been even worse after Davies second goal had Gibbs not got his head to that third set piece. We were shellshocked and hapless.

Then Santi scored a bullet of a free when nothing else was on. Bruce gave away a silly free and Santi scored an absolute rocket. Still even after that we looked toothless. Build up far too slow. Not enough making themselves available and reaction times from Giroud just not quick enough. I couldnt believe what i was seeing and it looked like the game was petering out to another heartbreaking gutless defeat even worse then the Carling cup experience of 2011. Thank god for the leadership shown by our centre halves. Both Mertesacker and Koscielny were terrific. Mertesacker in particular came forward as much as he could and tried to inspire us to launch attack after attack. A terrific leader. Koscielnys goal exemplified the bravery he has become known for. And Sagna on what is probably his last game for the club drove forward with positivity on every occasion. Ill be very sad to see him in a City or United shirt next year should he opt for them but i wish him well all the same. The man owes us nothing. Farewell also to Fabianski for his professionalism.

Wenger isnt known for any tendency to react to situations in terms of changing subs so only bringing one sub on in the 90 minutes was no surprise to me if it didnt seem at the time ill advised to say the least. Our first sub was the very raw Sanogo who to be fair to the boy, put in a good shift for us. Retained the ball in that penalty area far longer then Giroud was able to for one. Worked tirelessly and caused the Hull defence no end of trouble. Pod wasnt playing well (on limited supply ill admit) and to be fair either was Giroud but the success of the 2 man attack may indicate that Giroud needs help up there from time to time. Sanogo unlucky not to score. Sanogo isnt the most technically gifted i have ever seen but his effort on Saturday could not be faulted. Our subs in Extra time came at the real right time. Hull were on their feet and a fresh Wilshere and Rosicky helped us no end.

Decisions didnt go our way Saturday and the referee had what can only be described as a tour de farce. There was definitely 2 cast iron penalties out of those five shouts and ive seen the other three kinds of shouts given. I cant be too one sided. The corner that was awarded to us prior to our second goal wasnt a corner either but on the balance of things we were more sinned against then sinners.

On Arsene Wenger, well i dont agree with everything the man does but boy did it feel great to see the delight and relief on the face of such a loyal hard working and dedicated manager. He has taken an absolute hammering from the media the last 9 years. No other club or manager has done so. For instance we never hear that Liverpool have only won 1 trophy in 8 years but we are given a full detailed archive of every game Wenger lost. The only manager in England to go a whole league season unbeaten. The man lives so vicariously through this club you have to feel for him. I do believe he suffers myopia to a certain degree and doesnt focus enough on tactics for when we dont have the ball but i am absolutely delighted for the man.

Hoping this gorilla off our backs can inspire us to greater heights. There is definately potential there but now is the time to grasp the nettle. Please god that this time next year we'll be on the cusp of more success. Great to see Atletico win too. Hopefully a sign of changing times across European football.

The one negative i have is that Ozil needs to really do better. Hopefully he will adjust.

Meanwhile, here is a new board for the stadium :)

Bless his cotton socks - hope he gets a goal early next season or else a good loan deal (where he gets an early goal).

I actually thought he was great on Saturday and very unlucky not to score. He worked his socks off and made a real difference when he came on, just needs to work on his composure a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,478 ✭✭✭✭gnfnrhead

I reckon he just needs that first goal and then they will come a lot easier. He usually contributes a lot in terms of opening up space for other players so it's only the actual goal scoring he is missing. I think he will come good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,379 ✭✭✭Maire2009

I thought he was really good on Saturday - caused all kinds of problems for Hull, different problems than Giroud was causing. Maybe Wenger should have tried the two of them together up front more?

Even my father softened to him Saturday. Giroud wasn't working the centre back hard enough but Sanogo caused them hell. Certainly far more athletic if anything.

Mark Gatiss has confirmed there will definitely be a full series 4 (i.e. the 3 episodes and not the feature film as some were rumoring) but it definitely won't be this year.

On that note, I am going to see Martin Freeman in Richard III in July :) Have to wait a year to see Benedict "I'm a Gooner but never seem to mention it much until pressed on it" Cumberbatch in Hamlet.
