    It sure does look familiar...!

However, not quite sure I could spend 65% of my income on one though....:)

    It's the miles I do :(
350 quid a month on petrol alone. That's already 25% of my income.

With respect, if you can't afford it, would you not look to drive something else and put the 7er to one side...?

That's why I got rid of my E36. It was nice and all but too expensive to run for me. Now, almost 2 years later it wouldn't be as bad on insurance though.

Collected this at the weekend, updated my project thread so details in there.

I have, but still, insurance, tax on the second car. I will end up with similar costs, but just an extra car.

    Here's my finance for May.

    Less insurance: 212.50
    €1,187.50
    Less tax: 511/3=€170.33
    €1,017.17
    Fuel consumption: 20.5l/100km (average)
    At 350kms a week: 71.75 liters
    Cost: €101.09
    Less Fuel Per month: €404.36
    €612.81
    Less rent: €400
    €212.81
    Less Mobile Phone: €63.89
    €148.92

And that €150 a month is pretty much what I'm left with :pac:

If I took the train this month:

    Less insurance: 212.50
    €1,187.50
    Less tax: 511/3=€170.33
    €1,017.17
    Fuel consumption: 20.5l/100km (average)
    At 100kms a week: 20.5 liters
    Cost: €28.89
    Less Fuel Per month: €115.56
    €901.61
    Less Train Ticket: €222.00
    €679.61
    Less rent: €400
    €279.61
    Less Mobile Phone: €63.89
    €215.72

So almost €70 extra... Really considering it. But then this is what happens if I changed to a 2004 Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TDI:

    Passat 1.9 TDI

    Less insurance: €151.38
    €1,248.62
    Less tax: €190/3=€63.33
    €1,185.29
    Fuel consumption: 7.1l/100km (average)
    At 350kms a week: 24.85 litres
    Cost: €32.53
    Less fuel per month: €130.12
    €1,055.17
    Less rent: €400
    €655.17
    Less Mobile Phone: €63.89
    €591.28

600 quid a month... free to spend on whatever.

That's utterly mad man. Trying to insure, tax and fuel that thing on the wages you're on is just insane, and not in a good admirable way.

I don't wish to pry too much as this really is a private affair, but you're not able to save anything on those wages either are you? €400 a month for rent our in Newbridge sounds like it's very high to me also, but then again I don't know the details, nor do I wish to.

Put simply, that car really doesn't appear feasible in your current situation. I'd be looking to shift it on.

Ah, I don't mind the car like, I don't have anything to spend my money on as such, but then I wouldn't mind having some savings to upgrade in a year's time to something different.

€400 is rent and my part in gas, electricity etc.

I don't want to shift it as such, but I guess the time will come at some stage to buy something like that again... Perhaps when insurance won't be as expensive.

Btw, I don't mind talking about the money I make (which I know is no where near decent).

That car cripples me a little financially. Mainly when it's time to pay the tax bill :pac:

But still, got my phone, got my car, got my laptop, got my clothes. Don't really feel like buying anything (I have done that in the past and it was just purely wasteful. I have two PlayStation 3s sitting at home, I recently sold my unused iPhone 4S, sold my Xbox 360 and I'm currently thinking about selling my home cinema set which I don't use :pac: Hell, I still have an iPod Touch sitting in a box, which I haven't even used once. )

Yeah indeed, €400 a month for accomodation in Newbridge sounds a bit mad to me anyway.

If it suits you then fair play, but I know I couldn't be happy driving something that cost me that much and only left me with €40 a week after working 40 hours a week....madness imo.

If you put it that way, I know it sounds ridiculous.

However, I only work 3 days a week. (38.5 hours).

I probably wouldn't sell it if I worked closer to home like Naas.

By the way, everytime I start the car up or push the gas pedal, it brings a smile to my face :D

I'd still have the 7er if it wasn't for the crippling tax. When it went up to €1809 or over €500 a qtr I just had to call it quits.

The likes of a 525 is a lot more manageable.

I wouldn't mind the tax or bills on a 525i.

The problem is the insurance, which doesn't go down on these cars at all for me.

    728i > 750i - same price.

    525d > 750i - €1.50 a month less!

The only BMW that makes sense right now is only an E46 320d.

Downgrading to something miserable for an extra 10p a month makes no sense at all. It better be visible.

Well I'm touching 40 so insurance wasn't an issue. Fuel didn't bother me either although I did spend €140 on a full tank once. The tax was the deal breaker for me after two years plus of ownership.

Still the nicest daily I've had by far.

I can only compare the comfort of that car (which is lowered and on 18s) to an S-Class. Not even the W211 E-Class Merc can compare to it.

Who do we have, pred, big N, stheno... sure there's more....

The OAP's of the motors forum.

They should be all made sell up and by micras, which have to be driven at a constant 5000 rpm :pac:

I thought I took the same kind of pic with the Vento but I guess not, and it doesn't look like that anymore. :(

It all started with the Colt, so unfortunately I don't have that kind of pics with my previous cars.

You should bang all of those figures into excel and make a pie-chart so you can visualise just how much you're spending on that car. You should be able to source something more economical yet still of interest to you?
