Lawn fertilser

I'm in the process of doing up my lawn. I've treated the weeds and they're starting to die off leaving patches of bare earth. The lawn itself is looking a bit seedy as it's never been properly cared for...will a dose of fertiliser help matters and should i dose it before or after i start to reseed? Anybody reccomend a…
