If your homeplugs were affected by rain, I'd suspect something being a little flakey with your house wiring, possibly it's earthing.

These were actually the home plugs I had http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-PA411KIT-AV500-Powerline-Adapter/dp/B0084Y9N3O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397827263&sr=8-1&keywords=homeplug. So I think Alun might be right about my house wiring, it is an old house.
The Tp Link access point might be the best way to go. Would there be much of a difference between this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003HVKTWI/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers and this http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002YETVXC/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&psc=1&s=computers. ?

If it's an old house run some cables to the access points, get some cat 5/6 and get someone to crimp the ends for you. While you're at it you'd be as well get a box of cable (~€60 if you shop around) and make a start to cable to everywhere you can, all tv points, consoles etc, futureproof your house, you will need it in future and be very glad you did :-)

Hi guys, I recently got around to starting this project and just finished today, I'm really happy with how it turned out, the performance of the access point is just as good if not better than the other router. The only thing thats a bit of a pain is switching the network I'm connected to on my phone/laptop when I move room.

srsly78 you were saying something about setting up the qos settings properly, this is the current qos menu does this look ok? Or do I need to change some details?

If it's an access point give them both the same SSID (name) and encryption type and key (password) and your devices will roam

Theoretically yes, however I've heard a few stories about mobile devices (iPhones, Android devices) giving trouble in this regard.

That's not an issue, there's apps to sort that, check every so often for strongest signal

Should the wireless channel be the same?

I have efibre and bought an Asus RT-AC68U for better range/performance, as I have a fairly large house. I bought this modem to go with it http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003FZ3QSK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I recieved these both today and Im not getting a light for adsl on the modem. Is this modem compatible with efibre? It says on the front of the box for phone line connections.
Ive been pulling my hair out all morning to try get this working!

"TP-Link TD-8817 ADSL2+ Ethernet/USB Modem Router for Phone Line Connections"

this modem wont work on efibre lines

you need a VDSL2+ modem not an ADSL2+ modem

Its working flawlessly as an access point from the eFibre F1000 modem.
