NorthWest facing window box plants?

Just wondered what I should put in? I also have a sun trap area at the back I want to re fill some hanging baskets, what would be good for there, I don't mind having to water them a lot. Is it worth putting in some slow release fertiliser when I plant the window boxes and the hanging baskets up? Any other tips in general?
