Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I only had 34 points... but if I even got only 2 points on each of the holes I scratched it would have been 40!

I've said this sooooo many time....

My godfather has been playing for years & never beaten par fir his handicap of 28.

Semi retired now & gone hard at it.

Last two weeks he's turned the corner & shot 42& 43 points, plus an esr he's down to 23.5

    Chuffed for him!

After tonight session on the range tomorrows competition can only result in a nice cut.

I play some really good shots every round. All I have to do is increase the number of those. Practice will do it. I have the potential! Now that's pure positive. I left out all the 'but' and 'except for' stuff I was about to write! It starts tomorrow morning on a lovely links course.

I'm gonna get a cut tomorrow

I'm hitting the ball well - the course shapes just don't go with my swing.

Didn't work. I was crap. I'll try practice next. Or maybe a bit of both.

Mother in law is up. A golfer.
I've been given orders to make the most of it.

    This too will pass.

Thanks, Fix. Yes, I can do it. Actually I did get it together a bit on the back nine. Problem was, it was stroke play, off blue tees with wind blowing. Not great for the old high handicapper. Also, teed off at 8.00 and I don't think I get my positive head on me until about 11.00!
This year I AM going to realise my golfing potential. AM going to bring my handicap down!

Played a very enjoyable 12 holes with my Dad yesterday evening. Lovely way to round off a long weekend and had my first ever tap-in birdie too!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,001 ✭✭✭✭FixdePitchmark

    I'm a 12 handicaper stuck in a 7 handicaper handicap.

If I could just use Driver - Putt - Strikes Irons better - Chip way Better

    I'd be some golfer. :D

Sure of a cut in the am.

Played my best round of golf for over a year today but somehow managed to leave my 8 iron on the course (Black Bush) but I feel someone will hand it to the club tomorrow

99 strokes on Saturday. The positive part is that a score like that had to be marked with an ice-cream of the same name on the way home

Feels like parts of my game are being held together with sticky tape....the positive thing is this time last year I was out of sticky tape !! :D

It is a positive realisation - that I only now believe from experiencing.

You don't have to play great to score well.

Played only my 3rd round of Golf on Saturday.

    Love the long evenings.

I am just loving the fact I'm hitting my irons solid at minute.

I have never had a Eagle or Hole in one but I feel I'm not far away.

I had my fourth round after a 10 year absence yesterday and broke 100. Went round in 94 - there aren't many that would happy with a 94 but I am! It was my next goal after getting somewhat of a handle on my driver, so I'm delighted to have hit it after four rounds.

I didn't play that well, I just tried to keep the ball in play as much as possible and not follow a bad shot with a stupid one. I spent too long trying to attack pins like a gobsh*te. At my level, life's a lot easier when I lay up and take a pitch and a putt.

    Now to break 90!

We have a family golf event, stableford singles, which has been played every June bank holiday weekend for the last 10 years, where my Nan and her sisters are remembered. Anyone in the extended family who plays golf can play or extend an invite to others. The 'field' is usually 15-20 on average. The winner receives a beautiful silver cup and has their name engraved each year.

I won it in 2010 (my first 'Major' :o) and again last year (that all important ''2nd Major'').

I feel like a hat-trick and a successful defence is not out of the question on current form

Was ringing the club for a week and nobody had handed it in, was back playing the same course yesterday and asked in the pro shop and someone just handed it in mid week, they had taken it home with them and forgot it was in their bag. :)

Went onto the practice green before my round on Saturday and couldn't putt a thing. Tried a 10 foot putt and left it 5 foot short. Tried a bunch of short 2 foot putts, and lost count of how many i missed. Even thought of not bothering to play, but went out anyway. Managed to make a couple of 5/6 footers on the first and second and ended up having a great day on the green! Got cut 1.2 down, first cut this year, and down to 13!

When all around you seems at its darkness (7 pts on the front 9) the dawn (17th on the back 9) is just around the corner, and qualification to the captains prize is still possible (by 1 shot).

Positively delighted to get around Glasson this afternoon without bad rain in 3hrs 5 minutes (2ball) and level with my handicap.

Interesting, was listening to the lads on Sky talk about the impact of warming up before a round. Coltard was adamant that you are better off not assigning any relevance to it, just use it for warming up the body.

If you do attach significance to how well you hit the ball during warmup then if you warm up well you might be fooled into going for shots you really shouldnt. Conversely if you warm up badly you will be fearful and lacking in confidence for the upcoming round.

Anyway, the putting green is always totally different than the rest of the course...thats what I blame anyway.

Oh and positive aspect...I fixed my Golf Buddy World last night. Wouldnt work unless plugged in. Took it apart and the batter connector (little plug) had just popped out. Saved myself a few bob. (Was horrible playing without it last week!)

  • Registered Users Posts: 80 ✭✭not_quite_last

Usually, my putting isn't the best part of my game anyway but I've never putted that bad before. My warmup usually starts with me full of confidence, then throw in a few 3 putts and then get back to my normal putting, but this time I just never did anything of any good before I hit the first green. And conversely, never putted so well on the course.

I've decided to blame the fact it was 6:30 in the morning and apart from the green keeper out on the course, there was no one else around!
