Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I joined the blue sentinels, was afk/alt tabbed and got sent in to defend some guy had not got a clue what was going on, and their was this blue guy so i thought he was friendly and went over to him and he killed me lol.

Then it happened a second time when i wasnt afk, and i kicked the blokes ass, was the noob duel of a life time i tell thee !! a life time.

Yea so it gets a thumbs up from me, so glad i waited for it to come out on the pc.

im around lvl 53 going for a paladin type of build, and at the moment i have a fire long sword as my main weapon, its +4 or 5 atm, but i am in this area mc duffys smithy with dogs and some big bald lads with pole arms that leads to a
boss fight with 3 knight guys
but my weapon keeps breaking after i a kill about 10 mobs in the area :( any one else have this problem in this area ? Just seems like a bug to me, i dont see why its breaking so quickly im barely 10 minuets into the place.

Weapons break pretty quickly in this, particularly dex type weapons. You need to have a back up weapon or two really. Each time you rest at a bonfire it repairs your weapon though also worth buying repair powder from blacksmiths. I found it became less of an issue the further into the game I got though, also titanite
is way more common in this game so it's pretty easy to fully upgrade tonnes of weapons later on

Think the only 360 control you can change is the jump button. Unless you decide to try a workaround i.e Xpadder which would map to PC controls.

Frame rate is horrific even at the lowest settings. It looks awful at those settings too. Think I'll have to leave this till I get an upgrade :(

Im using xbox pad, and wondering how do you jump?

If it's the same as the console then you push R3 (push in the right analogue) while sprinting.

Sprint is B. I use my right thumb for that. I also use my thumb for the right stick. Somebody wasn't thinking

    Yeah it's me who wasn't thinking, it's L3 not R3 :o

This game (miraculously) works on an i3 2.1ghz and Radeon 4570M on Medium at 1024x600 when testing. That doesn't sound impressive to the higher spec people here but to someone who had to run DS1 at 800x480 on minimum settings and still couldn't stay at 30fps, that's amazing stuff to me! I'm still undecided whether it's worth migrating from 360 yet.

Noticed there is really bad mouse lag though...

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the intro section, it took me over an hour before I even saw an enemy and there's too much talking and aimless wondering about. It feels very familiar so far though, a lot of the same themes in the early game and a lot of similar gameplay mechanics. Promising signs so far but I'm hoping it gets a bit more focused as so far I haven't the slightest clue where I'm meant to be going

My first death was rather boringly through forgetting that the jump button has changed so I ran straight off an edge, first proper death to a big knight thing in Heide's Tower

Performance wise - running it at max settings on my laptop and haven't dropped below 60fps once so far can't complain there, the lighting and shadows are hugely disappointing though after the early trailers

They're all behind the fog gates in Things Betwixt? like 2 minutes after you arrive in the game

Ah right that makes more sense, I assumed they were all branching paths I could take so I ignored them and went straight towards Majula.

I was running the game without my gfx card previously. Running smoothly on medium settings with low resolution.

There are no estus flasks? Dying twice in a row makes me rage quit every fcuking time

There are estus flasks, you get them in Majula at the very start

you might want to talk to someone near the bonfire in majula

I some how missed them. I was wondering why I was finding the game especially hard

Some people are reporting VAC bans even when they haven't done anything wrong.

Try adding -tcp to your launch options in Steam.

Can also be caused by an overly protective modem firewall too, apparently.

Not played DS2, but if it's anything like DS1...you need the required amount of Souls and you level up at a bonfire.

I'm sure someone will correct me who has actually played DS2

The chick in Majula. They went with the Demon's Souls style level-upping, which is cooler imo, but this chick ain't got nothin' on the maiden in black

New chick? Can't even remember her name, keeps telling me to go see her ex BF the king or something. Who cares.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

all the npcs in the game are kinda 'who cares'

DS1 had solaire, siegmeyer, sieglinde, lautrec...none of the ones in two are even interesting let alone memorable

New level up woman has an Irish accent though.

It's nowhere near as pronounced (exaggerated?) as that lad, but there's a definite hint of an Irish accent from her.

She's voiced by Ruth Negga from Love/Hate.

can hear it now alright.. guess she just sounded kinda normal to me so I never registered her as having 'an accent'

I'm kinda torn now... I left the Covenant of Champions -
    thank you Sweet Shalquoir
. Joined those blue dudes. But the difference is immense, because now I can summon and leave summon signs. As a result, I'm always in human form (if I die, I just drop a summon sign and kill the area boss), and I made clean sh*t of 2nd Boss
    The Pursuer
. That fight is very tough solo, but with 2/3 people it's very very easy. I don't know if I can resist summoning. It's too much fun, but at the same time, removes so much challenge. What are people's thoughts on this?

I really like some of the changes. Particularly the player stats. It never seemed like a challenge levelling up in the original... VIT, END and DEX. That was my holy trinity. This time I actually have to give it some thought when I have souls. I also like the Estus changes. And the fact that so far, there appears to be more NPCs. I also like that 5/6 hours into the game I have a titanite slab already :D

Things I don't like so far... disappearing enemies. That was a bit strange the first time I encountered it. Am curious to see how that will play out long-term. The biggest thing I don't like however, is that the world feels like it's less connected and intertwined than Dark Souls, but it's very early days for me, so I'll hold off on judgement until I've seen more of the place.

If you want to keep farming an area you can burn
a bonfire ascetic, but be warned it basically upgrades the area to NG+ and means when ou paly NG+ tha area will be NG++ levels of difficulty.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Is there anywhere good to burn that, for some soul farming in NG? Wouldn't mind fighting some tougher monsters for the soul boost.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

if I had to recommend one (not having finished the game) I'd recommend
the iron keep. the black nights there will leave you with a few K a run

the game is generally a lot more miserly with souls than dark souls 1, it's weird not being able to just walk into darkroot garden and walk out with 7k souls 30 seconds later.

Co-op seems to be a pretty handy way of making souls. I spent around 30 minutes just getting summoned to
    Ornstein v2
. Easy fight, and a few thousand souls every minute or two. Love how quick the summons are coming.

Also tried it on the Pursuer, but people seem to think it's funny to shoot me in the face with the Ballista.

I'm not saying it's not funny, just not very productive.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 23,556 ✭✭✭✭Sir Digby Chicken Caesar

im finding it hard to get summons.. i'm wondering if I'm too high level or if my soul bank thingie is too stupidly high for my level cos of all the times I died horribly by walking off a ledge carrying 40k souls

only places I can go to have a chance of summons are the iron keep and the dukes dear, even then it takes bloody ages.

I played through the game first time blind and didn't summon anyone because I wanted to face every boss alone. Now I'm doing a run on the PC and I'm summoning for almost every boss. I'm glad I didn't summon on my first run because certain bosses are a lot easier when you have an npc tanking hard while you another player nukes the boss with sunlight spears taking chunks of HP off at a time.

It's slightly different in this one. You can only level up by talking to someone at one particular bonfire

Is it possible to rush through and get a Hex build going early on? Tempted to roll a 2nd character, and i want to do a Hex or Pyro build, but i don't fancy waiting a few hours before i can even start it.

You know you can respec? You need to
find an object called a soul vessel

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

Can you do that early enough, or do you need to find an npc as well? Have the souls vessal, and haven't spent any shards on anything, so that is an option.

Ahh, just give it to the 4 old hags. Might just do that tonight.

In short, kill Dragonrider, get Licia to move the path, get to Felkin.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,216 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

It really was that easy. Wanted to see if i could do the above, and that boss really is the easiest boss in the game. 20 minutes in, and i've got some Hex's already. Will backtrack and see how it goes tomorrow.

    right

so I have a few weapons.. I easily pass the dex requirements on them but the dex is still showing as a Red letter indicating something's wrong with it. and i'm losing something on whatever stats on the different weapons as well. what's going on.. do I have to do something other than just pass the requirements?

It's probably just because the scaling is lower than whatever weapon you have equipped when you highlight it in your menu. If the scaling is higher than what you have equipped the letter will appear blue.
