    Hi,
Am new to Waterford, and looking for a good/sympathetic GP for depression. I had a lovely GP in Dublin, but the once or twice I have been to a GP down here I felt they were rushing me out the door and not really listening to me, and the 'ah sure you'll be grand, you're a young woman' etc etc.
I just wondered if anyone in a similar situation had any recommendations for someone who would actually listen to you & be supportive.
    Thanks so much.

Hope you find someone. Nothing worse than dealing with depression and no one wanting to listen to you.

I've had this exact experience with two separate doctors in Waterford, too - it's so shocking to work up the nerve to tell a GP you're depressed, then to be dismissed with 'Ah sure, be grand so you will'. It's beyond frustrating and galling and one day, heaven's forbid, it'll be the straw that breaks the camel's back for someone with depression and lead them to do something drastic.

I'm still searching for a new GP, so will watch this with interest.

Thank God I haven't suffered with it but Deirdre Plant and Sheenagh Macnamara (sisters) in the Keogh Practice are both lovely. They'll be very understanding and definitely won't rush you out the door.

I would recommend you contact Aware and go to one of the local meetings. There is one that I know of in Mount Sion in the Monastary which is now a type of conference centre. It might be on Monday at 8 but I am not sure. Check their website. You will meet other people there who are recovereing and they will help you with regard tips and what is available. For example my ex was attending a councillor for 3 years at 90Euros a touch. The same thing was available in Ardkeen for free regardless of circumstance after a 4 week wait. She was made aware of this (no pun intended) in Aware.

Wow, thanks for all the support & advice guys. It is much appreciated. I will def head to one of those Aware meetings - it would be great to get something like that. I will also check out one of those GPs recommended.
Thanks again - am very touched.

Why, did Wayne become a doctor specialising in depression over the last few weeks?

Is there really a need to be such and A**ehole over something so delicate. What I mean't in my reply was maybe he could suggest somebody he knew and still uses to combat this terrible issue. Maybe you should stop being sarcastic and start reading but maybe that would be too advanced for you.

I'm not being an asshole the OP asked for a doctor referral and you gave him/her the name of a hurler?!

Try Sean McBrinn, don't have his number but google him, he's very good, will listen to you, very compassionate and understanding..

...the name of a hurler who went public about depression who will know a lot about the subject at hand and will more than likely be willing to help recommend a GP to the OP. Nothing wrong with that.

I tried rational thought, it doesn't work.

I personally never liked Mark Rowe. As far as I know he doesn't practice as a GP that much anymore. Also its nearly impossible to get an appointment with anybody up there.

Have to second this. I was extremely lucky that he was the first doctor I went to, very supportive and helpful. Contact details below
