Get data of old external drives

I have a couple of old external drives/multimedia drives that stopped working for some reason but I kept them hoping I would one day get the data stored on them from them.
Is that possible and if yes, how?
Are there any shoos in Cork/Munster that would do that sort of thing?
I have no idea what is on the drives, could be anything from photos of Jessica Alba to essays I wrote earlier in my career and research work, so it might not be worth it.

Depends what the problem with the disk was. If it was a physical issue with the heads/platters then it would cost alot and would hardly be worth your while.

I'm not sure if that is the issue. It could well be.

you can buy a hard drive enclosure, and attach your external hard drive (if it can be dismantled). Easy to do, no experience needed. This will work if the circuit board on the External Hard Drive failed.

If the external hard drives failed because of physical damage to the platters or read/write head (like you dropped it), then a specialist would be needed, this is very expensive.

Sometimes only the pcb fail on a hard drive, if you can get a matching pcb of the drive, and try to see if it powers up you might have a good chance of getting your data off them, and thats only if the pcb was'nt fried.

ide, sata dock, will Allow connection of any drive to a pc.
3.5, or 2.5 inch sata, ide drives.

    i recommend the sharkoon dock,
IF you are using old type ide drives.

There,s cheaper docks that just have a 2.5 3.5 inch sata drive interface.
