Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Honestly, remove all that stuff from the back cause it makes the inside look terrible and take better interior pics. That should get people more interested.

    Was just about to post the exact same thing ... take better exterior shots too ... preferably on it's own , not surrounded by other other cars ... and throw it through a car wash.

    Saab needs to be given a full clean inside out and add in all the extras.

    Better pictures as said above and get full image of the car in each photo.

    Take a front/side picture and use as 1st photo.

    Take kids seats out and have inside pictures of car interior only no clutter whatsoever.

    HI aodhan, +1 on the pics and cleanliness of the car, also the 1.8 is a belt driven and needs to be changed every 36k which may deter buyers. also unfortunately for you there are '04 way lower miles, leather clad, 9-3's for sale in dub in that price range. if you want it to shift lower the price.

    ah right - what engine/fuel/year do you have at the moment, and how do you find life with the Octavia?

    ideally I'm looking for a compact family estate (must be auto) but the Octy might do as an interim car

    I's 1.6 petrol from '00.

    It is grand - a bit downgrade from 2.0 petrol mercedes but with less tax and mpg around 37 mpg is nice (merc had 22 mpg :-) ).

    It just works, usual fluid replacements and I'm almost happy with it.
    Thing is I need auto so we could swap cars with my wife.

    Tasty 530d, NCT'd till 2016. All yours for €1,5k

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭Toyotafanboi

    and immediately due €1500 in motor tax, so really it's a €3k car.

    i know that not many cars in the sub €2k price bracket will come with any tax, but with a yearly tax bill worth more than the price of the car itself, it's worth baring in mind. it's totally different proposition that a 1.4 focus or even a 1.9d golf with no tax.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,354 ✭✭✭Sobanek

    But then, think about what you get for your money. I'd much rather spend 3k on a 530d (1.5k car + 1.5k tax) than 2.5k on a Corolla (2k on car + 400 quid on tax) :P

    Don't loose sight of the fact that you will to need to tax the car the following year also. To be honest its an argument I can see from both sides. A 530d is hardly anything overly special so I'd personally find it hard to justify shelling out that kind of money on motor tax each year irrespective of how wealthy I was. On the other hand I do appreciate that the high motor tax rate on it is the culpurit for driving down the market value of it too. The car under discussion though, if I were to shell out circa €1,500 on motor tax I'd be aiming for something a bit more special than a 530d, something not powered by the devils juice for a start.

    Anyway a banger
    2001 Peugeot 406 hdi;
    saloon;
    Tested until Aug 16;
    low mileage @ 110k;
    Dent on passenger wing I see but if all the rest is in decent order it can't be too bad for the money.

    but what am i getting for my €3k? aside from a hole in my pocket.
    185bhp and 0-60 in 8 seconds is fairly middle of the road, particularly from a 3.0 lump and baring in mind the tax bracket.

    what the average person see's you pulling up in, is this:
    42390866.jpeg

    so what are we left with to battle with? heated seats? fake wood? or the infamous six cylinders?

    personally, this ticks all the BMW boxes bar the badge fanboi box and associated high tax justification box. auto, heated seats, longitudinal 6 cylinder, RWD, premium saloon. i understand that's it's more of a 3 series contender than 5 series but still. all it's missing is around 20bhp and some fake wood.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/lexus-is200-sport/9792678?offset=28
    i understand it's a bit light on test :P but just using the vehicle itself as an example.

    anyway, it's not really about the is200 here, i'm just wondering what i actually get for a fiver a day in motor tax. if i had to buy a car which cost €1500 motor tax (knowing very little on the subject), this Jag looks like fun. it possibly isn't as well spec'd as the 530, but the Jag brand imo, implies to the average man, what a BMW head thinks is implied by the BMW brand.

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/jaguar-x-type-3-o/9591204?offset=28

    tell someone you drive a Jag and they are thinking this
    2005-jaguar-xj-vdp_100030851_m.jpg
    the Jag is much more exclusive.

    all in the name of a healthy debate, you understand :pac:

    If it is a 1.8 as the seller has stated in the ad , it is a belt driven car, the 1.8t is a 2.0 chain driven bus. It may well be a 1.8t I didn't check as I assumed the seller knows what he is driving. fyi the 1.8 non turbo is a 122bhp opel plant.

    I think you're probably a bit optimistic price wise for a Ford with over 200k on the clock but best of luck!

    You are indeed correct, my 2006 reg is due NCT in Jan 16 which if passed gets Jan 17 NCT. However, by going early, Aug 15, it is considered < 10 y.o. and gets 2 year NCT until Aug 17.

    A lot of people are getting caught out with this new rule. I was caught myself :mad:. If you want to get the 2 year test you must test it more than 90 days prior to it's due date. If you test within the 90 days you only get the cert for a year. Begs the question, when is a 10 year old car not a 10 year old car?
    When it's a day over 9yrs and 9months :confused:

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,255 ✭✭✭Yawns

    It's because anything tested within the 90 day window of NCT due date, then it's classed as being tested for that due date. It worked if you had a car off the road and NCT expired. If you tested it outside the 90 day window it will only get you up to that date, but if you tested inside the 90 day window you got it for a year / 2 year later due date.

    Good luck with the sale. You do seem to be very honest in the ad in fairness so hopefully that will stand to you. To be honest the heavily tinted rear windows in it would not be my cuppa tea and I don't think them alloys suit that model Mondeo that well but each to their own. You will need to remember that there is 227k km on much of the rest of the car and its mechanicals apart from the engine.

    I encountered a bit of this at renewal time this year any my trusty steed is only 14 :(

    It's still a couple of miles short of 120k on the clock. It has new tyres all round. It's been due an NCT twice in my ownership, done about 10 weeks early both times. It went straight through the first time and needed an exhaust bracket the second. Cosmetically it's got a few dents but it's rock solid on the road and I mean rock solid, much better than some cars I've had in the past that would have been younger. I'm not a happy bunny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,670 ✭✭✭quadrifoglio verde

    Taxed until next June, nct until next March .
    Fresh timing belt, full main dealer service history and arguably the best engine for the 156.

    Add to that what looks like immaculate bodywork and you really are getting a great car for the money.

    I presume the ncts and the department of the environment will be taking legal action on this.

    Insurance companies effectively saying that an organisation tasked with ensuring cars are compliant with safety and environmental standards are not doing their job. I didn't think a business could make a unilateral decision on what is legal and what is not. To refuse a person insurance ( which is a legal requirement, punishable by criminal conviction) based on an arbitrary factor such as age is surely against the law.

    I'd love to see the actuarial data that backs up their stand.
