Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

You wouldn't want to be in a hurry like, but there's something nice about 8 valve engines.

Bit of trim restorer on the bumpers would transform it.
Ultimately some hipster will buy it to carry his rusty tricycle on the roof.

Had the Diesel version, the main things that go body wise are the bushings on the front wishbones, they eat them unless fitted (properly) with aftermarket poly items.
Engine wise it's the timing belt interval and keep an eye on oil level.
The interior can need a bit of looking after, stuff loosens and just needs to be refitted, not a huge thing but you prolly wouldn't get that on a Toyota for example.

Checking the oil every week even if you don't drive it is needed, some drink a litre over 1k. That said mine hasn't drank a litre over 6k. The oil level needs to be at max (some say that the max on the dipstick should really be the minimum notch).
    The LCD screen fades
And the alloys while stunning, bend very easy.
Other than that fairly decent, although wishbones are consumables.
You don't buy one and worry about maintenance, the joys of driving them takes care of that.

166man bought back his old one, if you want to experiance what a well sorted one drives like, message him. It's underpowered alright but up the dublin mountains it's so fun to drive :D

Not a chance. High 20's to low 30's on anything other a motorway.

Lad in works car died yesterday. Picked up a 2001 civic saloon 1.4 today. 120k, 10 months test, €600. True bangernomics

Also the spark plugs need replacing every sixty thousand miles and the timing belt will be due at 108k miles (if it was last done at 72k, needs replacing every 36k)

cheers :) i had a spin out of Tims one when he owned it for the first time around at last years Glendalough meet, it was enjoyable to rev the nuts off of it, even if it was a bit groggy, the experience they generate as a car is fun. he also enjoyed some turbo toyota goodness, but whether he'd admit that or not is another thing :pac:

it's something i'm loosely considering, perhaps as my new years resolution. they look so good, on paper they are great and they are cheap as ****. it'd have to be a 1.6 or 1.8 156, everything else is out of my budget i'd say.

Theres some difference between it then and now. Basically been fully rebuilt from the front wheels forward:cool:
If it was me, id go for the 1.8, more power, virtually the same mpg

Theres only been one 156 v6 for sale this year and that ended up in dgts :pac:
They've become rarer than hens teeth. Very strange considering how many were sold last year, but then again I was seeing a few 156s on a daily basis last year and this year I'm seeing deck all of them
166 v6s are plentiful enough, but no where near as fun to drive

There's no point being worried or not worried. First hook up a €5 OBD2 interface and it will tell you what's wrong. Then decide if you should be worried or not :)
