So I rang the premium number, on hold for 10 mins. They said I would get a call from email security team.
    Nothing.

Does this mean that despite a massive security issue eircom support knocks off work at 5pm???

They are saying it is fixed

    http://community.eircom.net/t5/Service-Updates-and/Resolved-Update-on-Webmail-Service-Wednesday-April-30th/td-p/68691

But I have still not had a call to help me out as promised yesterday at 5pm, so still no access to my business email.

I have twice used the password changer (April 30th and May 1st) (http://autoreg.eircom.net/passwordchange/) in an attempt to change my POP3 password. The password change screen tells me that it will be up to 40 minutes to take effect. So far the only password that has changed is the one to get into the password changer. POP3 password remains as it was. Any suggestions?
ps - I'm using a 12 character password, mixed case with numerics also.

    Hi fat-tony

Unfortunately I don't have a suggestion for this however if you contact the email support centre they should be able to help. They can be contacted on 1890260260 or web chat here: http://bit.ly/MHjO8Z  or alternatively if you are not an eircom broadband customer please contact email support on 1530277100 (charged at 33c per minute).

I worked it out myself. Apparently, your password changer will allow any length password (I was using 12 characters). However, having re-read this thread, I tried a weaker 10 character password (same format but fewer characters) and POP3 password was changed shortly afterwards.
You may need to let your tech bods know that there is a validation discrepancy between what your password changer will permit and what your mail system will allow.

    Hi,

Is there a dedicated helpdesk number for loss of access to email due to recent tech issue?

I did change my password since the technical problems. Got a message that it would take time for that password change to take effect. Haven't been able to login to email since. I did try calling  already once but apparently I need the email support helpdesk. I can't change my password again as get the following message.

"Sorry! Your account does not contain enough security detail for us to change your password online. Please contact Technical Support for further assistance."

I got in touch with the email support centre. I've been informed that I have permanently lost access to my eircom webmail account due to the fact that they cannot verify who I am. I understand their reasoning. I know I could be anyone ringing up requesting access.   I have lost access to my account through no fault of my own. If there was insufficient security info on the account, security questions/answers  could have been  provided had I been consulted prior to the security threat. Clearly there was no forward planning for such eventualities. Anyone else in this situation?

    Hi Ginkgo
though we do appreciate your point immediate action is necessary if any security issue is identified. I am afraid that there was no opportunity to contact the huge number of accounts prior to action taken.
Our apologies that we cannot now provide access to this account.

    Tony
Thanks Tony. I realise that immediate action was necessary. My point is that eircom must have been aware that it was providing email accounts for which they had insufficient security info and they should have given such account owners an opportunity to provide such security questions/answers or a backup email address in case things went wrong. Eircom had the opportunity to do this before the security issue. I recognise that after the incident it was too late.

I'm still trying to see if there's a way around this. The error message above says that my account doesn't "have enough security detail for us to change your password online" and to contact the helpdesk for further assistance. How were others who had insufficient security info assisted?  Can you spell out what conditions need to be met please?
