I am a distance student at ul finishing off a masters. NOT IN COMPUTING .
I need to upgrade my laptop and desktop to windows 7, they are both 32 bit.
Anyway does anybody know whats the best way to do this. I was on to software for students but they are looking for 115 euro and that states it is only for 1 pc.
    Cheers
    Ray

Does it have to be windows 7? You can get windows 8.1 Pro for €60 direct from microsoft as a student. Windows 8 will run everything 7 can, and is a bit faster on any older computers.

Thanks not sure if desktop will run it. 32bit xp with 2g ram. Can you upgrade straight from xp to 8.1

    Heh... Windows 8... Heh...

    You've a few options OP:

Here's a Win7 DVD for sub €60. 1 PC only, but you could get 2 of them for the price of one from Software4Students. (might want to take a look at the seller though, I don't recognise the name and don't have time to research).

You could just pirate it and install it. Downside being you'll get a popup fairly regularly telling you you're using a pirated copy.

Do you really need Windows 7 on both? What I mean is, are you using specialist programs on your laptop that require Windows? If you're only ever going to use the laptop for browsing the internet and doing some word processing, I'd recommend installing Windows 7 on your PC and then a Linux distro on your laptop. Linux might be a little hard to get your head around at first, but it's way faster than Windows, free, more secure and allows you to either do really advanced sh*t if you want to learn it, or the basic Windows stuff you've been doing all along.

Why you have to use windows? Have you considered using linux (ubuntu, fedora or other)?

No, you'll need to do a fresh install. You can upgrade from XP to 7 though, assuming the specs of the PC are good enough. What are the specs?
