    Hi,

Have a new (old - 2004) watch on the way and I'm sure it is due a service and a polish to get a few scratch marks out of the bracelet and bezel. It is a Seamaster pro.

Can anyone recommend a good place for the service in Dublin? Was thinking of going to Dawson Jewellers? Any idea of cost involved?

    Thanks in advance.

http://watchrepairs.ie seems to get good reviews.

Thanks for that. I had seen all the posts on Boards about them.

Just wanted to get an opinion and est. cost for AD dealers for Omega

I dunno about local AD Omega costs, however I have seen the prices involved with back to Omega official services and they are high. IMHO Very high. Plus the wait time is long, as in I've seen guys waiting 6 months to nearly a year to get their watch back. Given the costs involved I suspect an Omega AD is duty bound to send them back to base? Maybe others could chime in on this.

An official service from Omega will be about €400

It should in theory come back like new

Thanks for the replies. It is good to know the costs involved. This is going to be my first 'decent' watch and wanted to know what is involved in terms of costs.

    Sorry for the hijack but....

€230 for an automatic chronograph for watch repairs? That's less than half of what I was quoted from an AD for my Tag

Are they legit? And is the work as good as you'd get if going through AD?

    Thanks

From the many reviews I've heard both online and off their work is just as good. I've never heard a bad word against them. I have heard some stories of AD repairs though.

On price, they're much more in line with service prices in the rest of Europe(and the world). The "Paddy price" servicing is a lot higher for the same service. Consider this chap in the UK. 60 sterling for a chronograph service. Watchguy in the UK is a little more expensive, more like Watchrepairs.ie, but still way lower than mainstream or AD prices in this country. Recently I needed a service of a very specialised nature that no one in Ireland would or could do(tuning fork movement) and the service was 50 sterling including a new battery and seals. And this was a proper stripdown to the component parts and rebuild from the ground up service too.

TL;DR? In general we get ripped off in this country more than we think and it pays to think outside the box. For a modern watch like your TAG watchrepairs would be my go to people. *EDIT* one of our own users in here aluntul also service watches so maybe PM him as well?

PS None of my watches are young enough to get a service with watchrepairs, so I don't have a horse in this race.

    Thanks Wibbs

Yeah the ball park GBP price on the Tag manual is closer to WatchRepairs

I'll contact them during the week

Thanks Mitch for that info. WOW, didn't expect those prices

Don't mean to drag up old threads but it's the most recent on this topic -

I just got quoted £275 for a service on a seamaster GMT by TA Mercers in Enniskillen ( where I bought it 6 years ago )

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,979 ✭✭✭893bet

Seems a good price. Are they doing it themselves or sending it to Omega?

I plan on having my PO serviced this year, 10 years old so it's time I think even though it's running very well. Torn between watch repairs.ie or the AD.

Watch repairs is 160 euro but I assume this doesn't include any parts though need to check. One year warranty.

AD is approx 450 but would include replacement with OEM parts for gaskets, crown, tube etc and 2 year warranty.

They said they would have to send it to Omega - so yeah torn between Watch repairs which I think is 280€ ( according to their website ) and the AD route

Have asked Weirs for a quote also but no response so far .

To be honest I've dealt with TA Mercers in the North a few times and they have always been great to deal with - plus I get a trip to Enniskillen which is always nice.

    280 on watchrepairs??
    http://www.watchrepairs.ie/prices.html

I would say Weirs will be slightly more expensive than the Northern Ireland AD. If sending back to Omega then all ADs should be fairly close in price.

    275GBP= 390 euro ish
Irish AD should be roughly 400-450 euro.

Sorry yes - my bad for an automatic chronograph its 230 :o

Auto chrono will prob be closer to 500 in an Irish AD.

I think when watches are sent back to omega then the service is priced in Swiss francs and given the relative weakness of the euro against the same there is upwards pressure on prices.

Just a quick update on this

Decided to use watchrepairs.ie - got in contact with Emily and she couldn't have been more helpful .

So sent watch end of May and just got it back today and am over the moon with it :) - It's like new and am thrilled to have it back on my wrist .

Cost of the service was €160 in total and would highly recommend the service provided.

Hi Shanel, do you have a contact number for watch repairs.ie?

Unfortunately, Emily seems to have quit the business. She appears to be un-contactable.

I haven't used anyone, so I can't recommend anyone - but other, wiser heads here have and will probably be along shortly with their opinions.

I believe a couple of people have used UK companies and been very happy.

    Which watch is that for?

    Does he use original parts?

It’s for an omega seamaster professional, comes with a 1 year warranty, full strip down, rebuild and sealing. As for the parts, from his website it does say that the parts can be remachined.

Interested how this goes if you wouldn't mind reporting back?

It's a pity nobody knows what happened to Emily. She just vanished.

I’ll be sending mine next week. I’ll report back once I receive it back.

John is excellent, i used Emily before too, but John actually found an issue that Emily missed, cant rate him highly enough

That sounds like a reasonable price - I've sent him an email asking if he provides re-luming to dials/hands also. Might send him the wife's seamaster depending on how yours turn out Ctlsleh.

It's good to know there is this available for servicing. Service prices from Omega have gone really high.

  • Registered Users Posts: 758 ✭✭✭fmul9798

How do you handle sending it to him? I'm concerned about insurance etc. Anyone had one come back yet and comment on quality if the case refurbishment?

I've gotten the watch back from John after servicing - he was a gent and managed to re-lume the dial for €30 (on top of the €230 basic service fee).

Turn around was really quick and communication was good throughout - we chatted a lot about watches (he says he used to work for Rolex). I gave him his first look at a real tourbillon and an overview of how the Chinese watchmaking industry is progressing as a whole.

He says he reads boards too so might pop into the watch forum (he didn't know there was a watch forum and that people were discussing him :D ).
