Best place to buy a Mac laptop in Dubin?

I've never owned a Mac.

I'm considering buying a laptop for image capture (I'm a photographer) on location.

It will need to have a fair bit of grunt. 8Gb RAM minimum, very good graphics card.

I'm told that there is a certain time of the year in the US when Mac products go on sale at a reduced price. Does that happen here? (I'm not in a rush)

Since your not in a rush, I suggest you buy refurbished direct from Apple, practically brand new and still have a full warranty from Apple.

Air is thin and light, Pro is a power horse and best for your photography needs. I'd recommend the Pro, its a nice size and weight, long battery and excellent screen - easier to repair is necessary too (EDIT the non Retina is easy to repair, Retina is harder).

Unfortunately the new retina macbook pro is no longer easy to repair, but it's a fantastic machine.

Yes, the older screen is still excellent so you won't notice too much different and will save a bundle on the price.

For me the Mac to buy is the retina macbook pro, 2.4/8gb/256. €1393 through campus.ie. I have it for 5 months, and it's absolutely outstanding.

The non-retina hasn't been updates in over a year and it's gone soon, never to be seen again. I personally wouldn't buy it.

One other question...which I should have asked earlier....

Do the Macbook Pros (Retina and non-Retina) have Firewire sockets? Not the newer mini Firewire, the older, bigger one.

I think the only issue with Retina appears to be reliability, for some reason.

But, yes, it should be first choice for photography. Though, in my case, I would never process RAW files on a laptop, only on a large desktop monitor.

Still wondering about Firewire sockets.....;)
