    Hello,

Hubby, me and 2yr old hoping to go to U.K. on hols in August. Looking for family park site that caters for toddlers. This is our first family holiday so completely clueless!

Will be travelling on boat so will have car. We are outdoorsie ppl and love a bit of sightseeing too. Fishing would be bonus for hubby....

    Any ideas please?

I'm heading to Kiln Park in Tenby once again with the crew! It's a great spot and if the weather is good there's nowhere like it. A walk to the beach is always a bonus and the beach is like a postcard... Spotless. You also have the likes of Folly Farm for the younger ones. It's about 20mins from Pembroke. Nice a clean and Tenby is a lovely town. Real old school!

Oh and fishing trips daily from Tenby Harbour..

If you're in to camping, Dorset is a great place to take a family, particularly Swanage.

Have a look at Centreparcs as well. They have a great mix of indoor and outdoor activities, with your own little chalet. They are car free as well, so perfect for toddlers.

if you're getting the boat then the easiest locations will be Pembrokeshire, North Wales and SW Scotland - Pembrokshire/Ceredigion has the best and most beaches, access to the 'hilly desert' of mid-Wales, and lots of nice fishing villages. North Wales has the mountains of Snowdonia and the Llyn peninsular which also has great beaches, NW also has the great ring of Edward I's castles. SW Scotland is very beautiful, hilly, good beaches around Luce Bay, and empty even in the summer.

worth checking out www.ukcamptsites.co.uk for reviews and thousands of campsites.

my personal favourite is Llety park at Tresiath, Ceridigion, but there are many.

I echo what OS said..North Wales is beautiful.
You could go to Pontins in Prestatyn, North Wales. We went there every summer when we were kids and we loved it.
Take a day trip into Rhyl or go to the beach too.

We did a CentreParcs holiday a few years ago. Great fun, but it would be very expensive in August though, best done when the UK schools aren't on a break.

How about the Isle of Wight? Beautiful place, plenty to do, a few decent sites there too: Google Orchards Holiday Park IOW (sorry, can't post links).

    oh yeah - school holidays.

in most of England and Wales school holidays run from roughly the 20th of July to around the 1st of September, in Scotland they run, roughly, from the 1st of July to the 12th August. in some parts of northern England (Cumbria, Northumberland) the will run somewhere between the two. everything will be open until September anyway, but it might effect how busy particular areas are.

the Commonwealth games will be on in Glasgow from 23rd july to 3rd August - the roads around Glasgow will be heaving, and accommodation, including camp sites etc.. will be rammed solid anywhere within an hours travelling time of Glasgow (draw a circle around Glasgow that takes in Ayr, Biggar, Edinburgh and Stirling). after this, the Edinburgh festival is on. great fun, but not with kids...

in the UK, the last monday in August is a bank holiday. do not, under any circumstances, travel on this weekend. be somewhere by all means, but planning to travel from Dorset to Pembroke to catch the ferry over this weekend would be the height of unimaginable foolishness.
