David Beckham said he feels like coming out of retirement every time he watches sportsman and athletes perform. Imagine him coming back to play for us and save us from this mess David Moyes put us in. Too good to be true :D

We have to face reality in that we are behind Real Madrid, Barcelona ,Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Man City and PSG for the worlds top players. There are a number of factors and these include Presitige, Money, Weather/City etc. We are behind all those clubs for money and all the other teams city aside play in a much better city than manchester. With regards prestige, most players will pick Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich in that order. Manchester United may have the biggest fan base in the world and be the biggest club to fans in Ireland and England or Japan and Africa but to most of the top players from latin based and mainland europe footballing nations, Real Madrid and Barca will always be the biggest and have the pick of the bunch. WE have never really been one to go all out and buy already developed world class players unless they were British based, to think we can just scour Europe for the worlds best players is delusional on a grand scale.

He said it very light-heartedly, so dont get your hopes up. And i doubt he will ever come out of retirement to play again.

Doubt anybody actually wants him too! (Clubs like United)

Actually, is this a serious thing? Would you actually like to see United re sign Beckham, now, at his age?

    Woodward would to sell Jerseys.

Beckham had peaked when he left us. The idea of him signing and playing for us again is one of sheer, abject terror.

He said he might play for his Miami team to get it off the ground.

Beckham had peaked when he left us.

I disagree with that. I think his second half of the the La Liga winning season was the best football of his career. He was unbelievable and there is no way Real Madrid would have won the league without Capello continued to freeze him out.

That period of form is way overstated. Capello dropped him and had good reason to do so. Three of the four free kicks that he scored should have been saved. Robinho had a much bigger direct impact for Madrid in the run in and Reyes was the player that actually won the league.

I would imagine that if United are enquiring or beginning negotiations with Barcelona it would be very subtle and I would also imagine it would be a "look, can we get this done asap - as we aren't hanging around this year only for Darren Dein to screw us over again".

As for the reasons they are getting rid of him? Well its quite simple - he held them to ransom last year for more playing time, which had already pissed off the fans and then he does not produce the goods as much as he is expected to - again ensuring he his booed.

But more than that, I think Barcelona just really want Koke who is an upgrade on him in my opinion or will be in approx 2 years.

I would say United are interested in him but they got the vibes form him or his reps that hes not for a number of reasons already mentioned i.e no CL football, living in Manchester, Uniteds current situation. The club would deny having an interest in him to save face.

It would be interesting to see where a Beckham in his prime would play if he was around today, 442 is still viable but the age of wingers getting to the byline has passed somewhat. He would have been a great central midfielder in my opinion, he had a fantastic engine and workrate on top of his passing ability.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,561 ✭✭✭Winston Payne

Beckham never had the positional sense or the tactical vision necessary to be a great central midfield player. He never dictated play from a central area when he was put in there. He had the range, but not the sense for the role.

Apparently Real Madrid are about to offer 41m for Vidal, the bastards get everyone they want.

There's no chance of us getting him, I think we would be best served going for William Carvalho. He's a realistic target and looks a good player

If that's the case go for Modric.

Who then joins PSG for £12m and we get Fabian Delph for £22m

Will very much look forward to watching madrid next year if they sign vidal. favourite player around at the moment.

meanwhile the silence grows deafening from united.

Id rather we were silent and avoid a PR disaster by fawning over someone and having them turn us down....

Granted, I'd rather sign him though...

I'd rather we put in bids for players like Vidal. Fcuk the embarrassment if they turn us down.

I'd nearly be certain we have inquired about him and a host of other players the media haven't caught wind of. Don't need to advertise failures though. Media will make up enough of them :P

Modric was arguably their 2nd best player for large periods of the last 18 months. They love him there now. There is no way that they will sell him.

Independent in England going with Jose unsure of Cesc's suitability for Chelsea and will look elsewhere first.

Matt Hughes of the times agreeing saying this is what he is hearing too but it could very well happen still.

Its not possible to say with any certainty that Utd did or didn't try to sign Fabregas.

Utd wouldn't have much to gain from disclosing that they did talk to fabregas' camp.

These days if its public knowledge that two or more clubs are trying to sign a player, its coming from the player's camp.

No. And you have eejits tying themselves in knots because they don't know what or who to believe from one day to the next.
Silly season really is the most apt of names.

Not the first time the Chelsea board have gone against Jose so we will see what happens but It looks like Barca are after Koke so Fabregas may well end up at Chelsea anyway.

interesting to see how arsenal fans react if he does go to a rival London club

Word seems to be Chelsea have agreed fee with Barca.

I know newstslk are taking about it next.

LVG would want to have seomthing special lined up...we've passed on two world class CMs.

Hunter has told news talk Barca have confirmed off the record an agreed fee. No one knows Barca stuff better I guess?

Or we didn't "pass" but know that's a better stance than "We desperatly wanted them but they weren't interested in us without CL football, and chose our rivals over us"....

Personally I don't think its a done deal until Ballage tweets that the deal is off.

Yeah obviously we have no god given right to signings

But an area that is beyond stupidly below par, and some top players available this summer, would expect us to be in for someone.

What's there simply isn't good enough.

To be honest was never really sold on the Fabregas deal. With Lampard looking likely off a week ago, it looked likely Cesc would go to Chelsea. They've a lot of money to burn this summer, from sales alone nevermind the money behind the scenes.

I guess it does still weigh into the "Strootman, Shaw, Hummels, Schweinsteiger list". Doesn't seem to be much action on any of those in terms of gossip or rumour, which can be a good thing.

Schweinsteiger though just sin't as dynamic as he once was. We don't need more slow poke midfielders, we need something with an engine.

Have to say be something else if LVG turns Cleverly into something of use

I have this terrible scene playing out in my head, a bit like the Hitler Downfall scene, where Van Gaal returns from the World Cup and says he wants Cesc Fabregas as his number one purchase and Woodward and co. stand there staring at eachother before he flips out at the discovery he has joined Chelsea

If that happens then we could have another "Hitler finds out......" video clip for Youtube

Longer it goes on people will go crazy with that thinking we might get him when we are not interested in Fabregas now. Full stop.

It will probably be sorted sooner rather then later anyway ... At least we do have plenty of time even after the WC to buy players - a decent signing now would take the edge of things though.

Meh. I'd pay for that channel in a hearbeat if it had the first team games. Really hope somewhere down the line we can buy the rights to our own games.

Have a package similar to america where you pay a sub to watch your teams games. Would buy it in a heartbeat.

Although I'm sure when it does come...will be a rip off :D
