One positive note - VM1's 5.30pm weekend news has excellent sports summary showing all the goals from both PL games that have been shown live in UK and ROI and all the tries from Irish teams Champions Cup rugby matches. It is better IMHO than RTE News sports section.

It's probably a lot easier to lift all the highlights from other broadcasters for a few minutes packages. I'm sure they have none actually out there on the field themselves.

That said, it is good that they've brought back the weekend news. Judging by medialive, the News at 5.30 across the 7 days is averaging 147,000 in Decemeber which is decent.

Also good to have Sport Tonight there on Friday. Be nice to have that across the week on say VM2 at 10pm, and then lead into The Tonight Show at 11pm on VM1.

Looks like I cursed it. Dropped from this Friday's schedule onwards. Little Boy Blue (of course an ITV Studios production - they wouldn't dream of buying anything else in) is showing instead (of course it's a repeat - this will be the 9th time it'll be shown since 2017)

My only conclusion is that people watch crap and Virgin Media are getting away with it, December particularly Christmas was dreadful on the channel, but

    VM ONE 10%
    +1 0.3%
    VM TWO 3.2%
    VM THREE 1.5%
    TOTAL 15%

If people had access to Utv/Itv it would be a different story.

TBH with those figures I wouldn’t be surprised if UTV/ITV is back to 2.5% where it was before UTV Ireland entered the market

given the increase in fta receivers I would say the default in those is utvhd and tv3 a distant second choice unless football is on. So yes 2.5ish a good guess for utv.

I've heard lots of different people mention the masked singer so ITV have plenty of viewers.

Love Island not doing too well on VM ONE. ITV2 also not seeing the same kind of viewers as their summer version. Moves to VM TWO as VM ONE will have the GE2020 debate with Leo and Micheal.

Always a risk for ITV2 to have a second version. Look at what happened to Big Brother when it became bloated and over exposed with multiple versions per year. They'll destroy it soon enough.

Having it on VM1 just meant that they had an excuse to fill 9pm for the next 5 or 6 weeks with more ITV Studios programming, instead of spending on homeproduced programming. It should have remained on VM2. People's perceptions of VM1 now is it just like UTV, and mirrors everything to ITV apart from the news in prime time.

The Leaders debate with Pat Kenny pulled in impressive viewer numbers for VM.
670,000 viewers tuned in to watch the first Head-to Head Debate between Fine Gael leader Leo Varadkar and Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin on Virgin Media One last night, with a further 40,000 live streams.

Hosted by Pat Kenny, the 80-minute debate had an average audience of 325,400, which marked the first major debate of Election 2020.

On Thursday, January 30th , Virgin Media Television will host a multi-party Leaders’ Debate moderated by Matt Cooper and Ivan Yates, where the leaders of the seven main political parties have been invited to VMTV to take part in a wide-ranging debate.

VM1 will start showing ITV fact-based family-massacre drama White House Farm on Monday night at 10.

Episode 3 of this was due to be shown tonight, but it appears to have been bumped for a interview with Prince Harry's father in law

No, this 90 minute documentary was broadcast on Channel 5 last week. So White House Farm has been taken off, and will be delayed by another week.

This is crazy. Someone should count the number of time RTÉ and Virgin Media have broadcast something about Harry V his Uncle Andrew.

Recent tragic events would have influenced the decision to defer broadcast.it's the correct decision imho

    Then the tweet should read

Due to the Recent Tragic events in Dublin this weekend Virgin Media have taken the decision to drop White House Farm.

I doubt they have even thought of that.

Instead they have an initial tweet saying

❗ An exclusive interview with Meghan Markle's father ❗
"I want Harry and Meghan to see this video and know that this is not fair"
Thomas Markle: My Story, tonight at 10pm on Virgin Media One

The Leaders debate with Pat Kenny pulled in impressive viewer numbers for VM.

Would love to know how the debate had 274,000 adult viewers according to Medialive and 325,400 total does this include the 40,000 online?

RTE One has coverage from 9am on Sunday for the results. It ends at 2am.

Virgin Media's offering is very poor. They are replacing their Weekend AM programme with an Election Special from 9 to 12. And then a slightly extended evening bulletin at 5.10 PM.

Given they are showing repeats that day and other rubbish, you would think they could provide a little bit more coverage.

4 hours is probably a lot for them, considering they rarely show much of the results process. They also have a live Rugby match for 3 hours too. As the day goes on, maybe they'll move a few things around. Why they don't make more use of Matt Cooper, Ivan Yates for those days is beyond me. A Tonight Show special at from 10-12midnight would do better than a 1986 reshowing of Cobra film.

2007 or 2011 they had significant coverage, I think 2011, but since then they've dropped this coverage. At least they are using Ireland AM's Sunday programme for it, something they didn't do for the local and euro elections. If anything they should have a 4 hour programme from 2pm to 6pm.

Copper and Ivan are probably providing Today FM and Newstalk coverage.

In 2002 & 2007, an extended hour long 5:30 news special.
In 2011, lot more - with Vincent Browne at the helm. 3pm-5:30 VB Election Count, 5:30-6 News, 11:00-1am VB Election Night
In 2016, no news coverage at all on the day after the election. The Sunday had an Ivan Yates and Collette Fitzpatrick special from 7pm-9:30pm.

So for 2020, and seeing they want to be seen as a proper news outlet for those, they should really be moving programmes like Dancing On Ice and Love Island to VM2. The 9am-12midday one seems like a waste, as there will be very few results ready by then. Extending it to 2pm before the rugby may help.

But will everyone just default to RTE anyway as they are the kings at these event type TV, whereby VMTV are just putting in the bare minimum knowing they'll get little audience anyway.

I think they easily could have kept the coverage going till 2pm. Whatever their showing won't get much viewers.

Ivan and Matt haven't come out of this campaign particularly well after the debate mess. I wish they would get someone else to front their nightly show and back to one presenter.

I think it was just before this that McRedmond started to lobby the BAI to reduce the moratorium on Broadcast, it now begins in the afternoon the day before the election. It had been both the day of the election and the day before.

Virgin Media have updated their Sunday coverage.

    9 - 12, 1.00 - 2.30, 5.10 - 6.00 and on again 8 to 11pm.

    Much more respectable.

Yep, a lot better. They also have a 9.55pm exit poll special on Saturday night. And specials on Monday at 2pm and 5pm.

Bet RTÉ are disappointed that the votes not on Friday, exit polls have become part of TLLS
