Tree/ shrub recommendation

I'm looking for ideas for a small tree or tall shrub that would blossom at the beginning of May (obviously weather dependant). I've seen a few lately (no idea what they are, cherry blossom?) and would like to plant one as a memorial, the blossoms being out and falling around now would be special in the garden.
