Lucky Board bia could do the farm inspection remotely this year. It would have been awkward with the travel ban and all that.

You wouldn't know, we have them at our producer group AGM and they say they export to England, It's probably Northern lamb and that stuff being cut up for UK,

How does it make any sense only as a price control measure?

Highly unlikely it's for the UK market. The UK was always a net exporter of lamb. Even with reduced numbers they still have more than enough.

Even if it was the case would it not make.more sense to export it in carcasse firm to a UK processing unit owned by these companies. Even if they do not own a processing unit in the UK, it would be more cost effective to buy cut up lamb wholesale from a UK processor's if going to the UK market.

It's interesting that processor's will punish farmers price wise for nomad cattle and sheep yet they it seems in this case and have bring doing for years use what are nomad carcasses for price control measures.

So much for QA, nomad animals, under 30 months, traceability etc

They do it because they can,
No different than farmers not buying local.
Everyone buys as cheap as they can

I hope what ever factory in ireland that English lorry with 1,100 lamb carcasses was going to, observed proper labelling requirements once chopped up and boxed out the other side.

ok I don't agree with it on principal if nothing else however that's 1100 less carcases that the English plants will have. In a time of scarcity between the two countries it means little, which is great!

    Have a think about that.
They have pulled quotes in Icm this morning 30cent.
If this has a domino effect it pulls us all back.

The transport company has removed the original post.
    These lorries should be burnt.

Dont necessarily agree they should be burnt but by all means they should be queried on who was the end receiver.

7.80 Icm I’m told. If it’s true that these carcasses are going there and it’s off the back of this there will be trouble.

If they are paying dear for meat to cheapen ours (we will be paying the difference if it works for them)

Saying their lorries should be burnt is a load of sh1te... Icm is who people should be after. Their just a haulage company and a professional one at that being paid to take a product where ever the company their working for wants.
Do you think if an Irish meat factory asked a haulier from here to take lamb to the UK that they would say no? Not a hope they would turn it down and why would they.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,005 ✭✭✭Green farmer

Tried to book in lambs on friday and factory didnt appear to want them. Makes more sense now. Amazing how fast the haulage company took down the picture from its social media once it started circulating around.

It's all a load of ****e, no point in blocking imports if you're not prepared to accept the English blocking our beef, because that's what would happen.
Welsh farmers often threatened to throw Irish beef into the sea

The haulage company or the lorry isn’t the problem and no way would I like to see them out of pocket and yes it is the gob****es in Icm jumping like fleas for Larry that are the problem.
Point taken but this **** should be stopped when now that lamb price is bearing some relation to retail price.

They do the same if it was 4€ a kg.

A lot of men buried since that. 1997. And not even close to resembling the same thing.
Irish beef was cheaper. That’s supply and demand and honest economics.

All of this lamb is destined for the same European markets. Processors here are buying a more expensive input to manipulate the local market.
The lambs Mrs wrangler nursed will wind up in Larries Swiss bank account by default.

There is no problem with imports per say. But if this lamb us relabeled outside of the rules there is a huge issue there. It puts the hoops we jump through into question. As well as suppliers over the year have taken the hit when processing plants act illegally look at the horse meat and bull beef saga's.

As well if that lamb is sourced and is costing a higher price than Irish lamb and is used to bring down Irish prices ( especially of it is miss labeled) then it brings competition law and labeling law into the equation

Does anyone know the exact source? Were they bought live by Larry and killed in the UK and shipped over here then?
How much are lambs making in the UK?

`No one will get any financial information on that lamb no more than any other factory investigations, They cut up a lot of carcases in Camolin if that's where it's going, they've invested a lot of money in plant
