    This is the second year where just where prices should be trickling upwards are being pulled down. I wonder if this continues will lads keep stores next year. Bad year last year followed by more margin squeezing this. Not much to be made out of them with lamb finisher costing around €280. Roches feeds are after putting their product up to €306 a tonne.

    Have you many lambs left, you should be investigating if you have......march lambs should be gone and probably April lambs as well

    We should be investigating the purchase price commission and transport costs of the English Scottish sheep being ferried in and if they are significantly more expensive than Irish paid price then the competition authority might be worth a call?

    Vast majority of lambs gone since November. have a handful of small Lleyn ewe lambs knocking about that were too short and small to bred off. They’ve slowly making their way towards gate ( in their own time unfortunately )

    and what about the carbon footprint of such practices they are so interested in but ignore when it suits them?

    If this was France, the French farmers would do something like everyone would stop sending their lambs to the factory doing the importing.The factory would then have to import 100% of its lambs, at a huge financial cost, therefore making their output unprofitable. Problem solved.

    We can only hope that the bird bia crowd ( that are paid for out of our factory levies) do their job right and ensure that all the quality assured lambs and others aren’t all cut up and thrown together in one box.

    But it's processed in Ireland.

    Fair play to you for rooting out this report.

    If Irish processors are buying lambs in Carlisle in the North-West of England, they're paying the following plus agent, mart, transport (road-ferry-road) and import/admin costs:

    * Beltex: €114-120

    * Texel: €100

    * Suffolk: €96-108

    Probably not far off what they're paying for lambs here, but they're willing to pay the extra costs to anyone with their hand out rather than increasing what they'll give to local farmers.

    I'd be interested to see how Bord Bia square this reality with the image they sell in their ads.

    There'd be a factory less but for the imports, it's probably the lesser of two evils so.

    OK, I can see what you mean. It's related to the number of lambs available locally and the number required to keep the factories open.

    If they want more supply raise the price and the supply will rise.
