Hi everybody, I have a couple of colonies of ants in my poly-tunnel and I'd like to get rid of them. Do any of you know an effective way of doing this without resorting to poisonous chemicals. Thanks.

What kind of ants are they ? Colour / Size ?

The only way to kill a colony is to kill the queen. Even then, you will have to wait for the remainder of the workers to die off.
You can try finding the nest and digging it out.

The only thing is, It's only a temporary win as there are probably a number of young colonies which haven't yet surfaced.

Are they doing much damage ?

Same experience. No amount of kettles or Polyfilla will stop ants. You need to kill the queen and that means ant bait, usually borax of some sort.

When I looked into it I read that was just impossible in nearly every circumstance.

Water pi55es them off so do a good saturation of the nests with hose..keep in mind any condensation though

The ants are small brown ones about 3mm long and seem to like strawberries as much as I do and there's not enough for both of us! They have to go, I'll deal with the strawberries on my own.
