I have this course down as my first choice and I was just wondering what to expect.
Maths isn't my strongest subject (I do ordinary level) and I don't do chemistry at all. I researched the course and as far as I'm aware you have to do a minimum of 2 modules of maths and 1 module of chemistry.
How long exactly is a module? And how hard is the maths and chemistry in comparison to the leaving cert?

Thanks in advance for any info.

A module will last one semester ie September-December or January to May.

All modules assume you have a basic enough knowledge. For example, I didn't do chemistry for the LC but ended up doing two years of it in UCD and passed easily enough.

If you don't get higher than a B in the OL maths (a B or higher is the entry requirement) you do Intro to maths in the first semester which wouldn't be a whole lot more challenging than LC maths, so in this case I think that you'll only have to do one of the level one modules, but I'm not 100% on that. Either way, neither of the level 1 maths modules are overly difficult, there are tutorials and continuous assessment marks, and the exams are similar enough to previous years. I definitely wouldn't be too worried about it, and its only in first year you have to study it anyway. I had done honours maths for the LC but hadn't covered any of topics that are done in the maths modules, and the concepts were easy enough to get. Just keep up with the course and you'll be fine. I think you also have to do 2 chemistry modules in first year as well, 1 in each semester. There is an introductory chemistry module as well, which assumes that you have no LC chemistry and covers the basics from scratch. The second semester module (basis of organic and biological chemistry, or something like that) is more challenging, but theres tutorials, labs and a presentation going towards that so a pass isn't hugely difficult to achieve.
Overall, realistically your going to have a few modules in 1st year that you don't like (I didnt like physics, maths or chemistry :P ) because you most likely will be covering a few subjects. Theres just a lot of prerequisites and core modules that you have to do before you can specialise in something you enjoy :)
