would like to go to this but the date clashes with RIAT

SOPARA is on tomorrow after a big gap. A slightly lower key flying display.

The Dawlish show looks interesting this year with the Canadian Lancaster joining the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

At the end of the war, almost a quarter of Bomber Command's aircrew were from the RCAF.

The RCAF's Roll of Honour contains the names of 17,100 personnel who gave their lives in the service of Canada. Of these fatalities 14,544 occurred overseas - among them 12,266 on operations and 1906 in training accidents. The majority of overseas casualties were with Bomber Command.

Slightly more than the 10,000 usually ascribed to the Canadian contribution to the war effort.

I'll possibly be going to Duxford; having missed last years event by a day. Turned up on the Monday for a visit not having realised the show had been that weekend. At least there was still a visiting Junkers JU-52 painted up in Luftwaffe colours parked on the apron so got a load of pictures of it. Pretty much anything else visiting had already departed and the resident aircraft returned to hangers for maintenance.

For anyone who hasn't been to IWM Duxford; it's well worth the trip even if not on an event weekend. The airfield itself is still active and was used for the filming of Memphis Belle (and is also home to Sally B aka the Memphis Belle) & The Battle of Britain.

I went a few years ago and it's a great event.

btw - if you had a few grand lying around you could have bid for this.....

Fly the Lanc to England for $40,000

...AND was used to make the 1969 movie 'Battle of Britain', in which they actually blew up one of the very few surviving C-Type aircraft hangers in existence - just for the effect.......

...AND The Fighter Collection, the largest collection of flying warbirds outside the USA.

...AND The American Collection - from A10 to B52 and a SR71 and many others.

...AND the home of the Bruneval radar, stolen off its cliff-top location by a daring commando raid.

    ...And lots more, too.
