Chrome can't open local html files

Hi All, I've an odd one here. All of a sudden yesterday, when I try to open html files in chrome (default browser) chrome opens a new Chrome session to the Chrome homepage but not the file in question... Even if an existing version of Chrome is running. If I drag html icon to chrome it opens then! Any ideas? Thanks!
