Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi I am just wondering what do the Defence Forces do with their motorcycles when they are upgrading?
I know the Gardaí use Wilsons auctions, do the Defence Forces use the same??
    (I want to buy one)

Haha I ment why would you want to buy one! Aremt the army drivimg bandits at thr moment? Plenty of them to be had online. Army vehicles are trashed about and not looked after by the drivers for the most part, same as garda cars. Sure they are maintained well but they have hard lives

Yes they've Bandits (2002) and other makes & models of bike.

Army bikes are not trashed, and the driver is responsible for the daily/routine up keep of the bike. Before every detail (drive/ride) the soldier is suppose to give his/her vehicle a once over (the majority do) and at the end of every driving duty the driver complete's a 'snag book' and lists any faults.

If a fault is recorded the vehicle isn't allowed back out on detail until its been inspected and/or repaired by a mechanic.

Back before electronic mail etc despatch rider bikes had a hard life, those days are long gone and most bikes have very low mileage.

I'm not sure if they auction off their vehicles anymore but if someone was to pick up a Honda Deuvalle (or however its spelt) they'd be getting a nice bike.

    Bandits are sh*t.

Iv no experience with the bikes myself but plenty with the jeeps and trucks. I was in the rdf for years and the pdf vehicles were dogged constantly!

It could even be a biker thing, most lads I know on bikes spend alot more time on maintenance than lads with cars do in general

Some PDF cars do huge mileage on escorts etc but generally speaking they're in good shape. Of course there are the exceptions, the old Landrover 110's weren't up to the job and were replaced with the brilliant Nissan GR6, they're being replaced by the Mitsi Pajero which are a step backwards.

If bikes were being auctioned I'd seriously recommend people stay away from the Bandits, they're really not a good bike. Most are used on DR learner courses so they've dented tanks etc, but mechanically they're very sound and all parts are replaced with original Suzuki parts and they never miss a service.

So I'm guessing stay away from bandits either way?!
Ya I was on a deauville before, 700cc I think and it was a nice steady bike

There's no reason to stay away from bandits, they are very reliable, cheap to buy and insure, piss easy to work on at home (simple well proven mechanics)
spare parts are widely available, there's a huge amount of accessories for bandits.
There are more bandits on UK roads than any other mark, and they have a lot more bikes than ireland.
The only reason people say bandits are **** is because they're fuc king bike snobs, we have piffling few bikers in this country and half of them are looking down their nose at the rest.

If you want a Bandit and see one cheap by all means get it, even a DF one. Its just my personal experience that they're not a nice bike.

As a commuter the Deauville is a much nice ride, its more reliable and won't look as shabby.

If you can go for a Bandit 12 then we're talking a good bike!.
