Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Manchester United/Liverpool Pissing Contest Thread

Posters in both superthreads are growing tiresome with the endless dick-measuring that is going on and it doesn't look to be subsiding. Yes I myself and many others have engaged in 'banter' on specific days like Liverpool's recent detrimental loss to Chelsea and yesterday's final games of the season, but by now the endless back and forth is starting to frustrate posters in the respective fora.

"Manchester United Superthread: 80 new posts since last visit" - Oh I wonder who we signed! Oh...nobody, just more of the "We're better than you/no you're not" back and forth.

If the mods allow, maybe this could be the place where such discussion takes place until it dies down in the next few weeks. In fairness, a lot of it is constructive so it is possible that if this thread is allowed to breath, it mightn't descend into a shít pit.

I'll start the discourse; Liverpool fans have suffered 20+ years of hurt and hardship, can't blame them one bit for languishing in United's comical misfortune. However, how can a team who finished 6th, 8th and 7th in the last few seasons and then almost win it this season, reckon it's impossible for another team to do the same next season? Especially when that other team is Manchester United with a reported hefty transfer fund available for the coming window.

For the record, my ideal is United should be challenging for the title every season, but realistically I will be delighted with top 4 next season.

it's called rivalry. Yes it's petty and sometimes childish, but it is what it is. There's an ignore button you know ;)

Thanks for the schooling evilseed. No harm in rivalry, my posting history will tell you that I'm in favour of it.

The idea that even with this thread that it's going to stop in the superthreads is naive to say the least.

All valid points. I think though that this season has gone far worse than anyone within United imagined it would, and that the Glazers will invest heavily in their chief asset over the summer as a result of it because failure (i.e. several seasons outside the top 4) for them is not an option.

Great for Liverpool to be back in the CL, but will the squad be able to cope with the amount of games to be played next season? I know you don't have a crystal ball, but surely Liverpool need to sign 4-5 possible first teamers in order to remain competitive on all fronts in 2014/15. I feel once Suarez has his CL football, he will definitely remain with Liverpool for at least one more season so you guys have that.

Is there any word yet on how much money Liverpool will have available to bolster their squad over the summer?

So who will finish ahead next season, a revitalised United with Van Gaal at the helm and a massive amount of money to be spent or Liverpool who will play Champions league football and look to add "3 to 5" starters to their squad for next season with Rodgers looking to improve his defence while keeping his attack firing on all cylinders.

have to say, I found the "Manchester United 20 - Gerrard 0" banner fairly hilarious!
